custom build suggestions

Thread Starter
hey need a few suggestions building myself a new toy to replace my almost dead dell 3.0 dual core.
I bought an AMD phenom II x6 1090t black edition cpu 3.20ghz
an ASUS m4a79xtd evo board
Western digital 2 t/b 3.5" green caviar hdd
as far as i have got so far...

question is would there be much difference running 16 gig of dual channel or would 8 gig suffice i run alot of vm's for school

is there alot of difference running dual vid cards or would one good one suffice board does support cross fire was thinking of using it for all i can

as well i know amd like to run hot specially when oc so i am already looking at adding liquid cooling to it or some kind of non oem cooling which ones are best bang for buck

any suggestion's would be appreciated

Hey there, first off welcome to the forums.
As far as memory is concerned I think 8 gigs would be more than enough to run what you are needing. I run 8 gigs and hardly ever get above 50-60% usage even during heavy gaming. I dont do any video editing or anything like that so maybe someone who does would be be able to confirm that 100% but I would say go for the 8 gig with 2 4 gig sticks rather than 4-2 gig sticks, it will make your OC alot easier to get stable. Take a look at G-Skill ripjaw series and go for the lower latency stuff ie cl7 or cl8 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...PC3%2012800%29
Highly recommended around here for its stability and overclock ability.
For your cooling check this link out for the air cooling stuff.
http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...ered-here.html or if you are looking to water cool and not comfortable with building a full loop check out one of the all in ones by corsair like the h60. You can do a search on here to see how it performs compared to some of the air coolers.
Video cards - running crossfire can be a bit tricky with getting the drivers down but if you dont mind playing with it give it a go. check this link for video card essentials.

Also as you build out your system go ahead and fill out your system specs you can find that under the quick links tab up top and go the the user control panel and you will see add or edit system there.
