if they are the same price and the 6950 can oc much higher, then the 6950. iirc, the extra shaders give a 1-3% improvement in framerates.
post #3 of 13
Obviously the 6950 overclocked. That being said why would you flash a 6950 and then not overclock it from there?

Then your missing something, have a bad card, or temps are too high. Have you tried reflashing it? What type of clocks can you get on your stock 6950 bios.

Not what I meant exactly. More like

@stock BIOS 6950 clocks to: 950/1500

@6970 BIOS 6950 clocks to 880/1375.

My question is for you to clarify. Have you tried another BIOS? If not, why haven't you? Does your 6970 flash crash at 880/1375? Can you OC a bit from there? Have you tried increasing the voltage when overclocking?

And, when you are using the 6950 BIOS what is the best overclock you achieve?

if you flashed a 6970 bios onto your 6950, it could be the different memory voltages/timings of the 6970 bios that are giving you instability. you should use an unlocked 6950 bios and see if that helps rather than 6970 bios. if you already are and still have instability, then your card is just unstable with unlocked shaders.

No i haven't tried another bios!No it is not crashing at 890/1375 at 920 with 1,20 voltage yes.I achieved 840/1300 from amd overdrive only

Show me some proof about different memory timings or voltages. Otherwise your just furthering rumors and hearsay. And no, linking another forum chat about it isn't proof. Post up some number proof. Gossip FTL.

OP ignore that. ^

Do listen to that though ^

As I recommended above, don't just settle for a stock 6950 if your will unlock. Try another 6970 BIOS, try just unlocked shaders and even try to pump a little extra voltage in. And post us up those numbers!

So your 6950 with a 6970 BIOS flash, crashes at 920/1375 with 1.2V? What does the temperature look like at that point? Does your OS blue screen or does the 6950 only crash when under load? And as I asked above, what overclock can you achieve on the 6950 with the stock BIOS on it?
