PC wont Post/display anything

Thread Starter
My friend came to me because this morning his PC would not display anything when he turned in on. The night before it was working perfectly.

GPU: 4850
CPU: AMD phenom x4 975
Ram: Gskill 1600 DDR3
Mobo:MSI 770-G45
PSU: Rosewill 650w

He had previous problems with his motherboard and CPU so had to get the motherboard repaired and get a new CPU because of a bent pin.

I switched the Graphics card to second PCIe slot and nothing. Disconnected all the cables, and reconnected them and nothing.

I used my PSU from my second rig same thing happened, and also inserted my 5870 in there and no results.

Used 1 stick of ram at a time with no results.

Any Ideas guys? Mobo problem or CPU? I would really appreciate the help.

Bump, sorry if too early, but it is kind of urgent.

I believe it might be the mobo again This time around it is a faster CPU, but I doubt it is damaged physically. He does not overclock, all stock settings enabled.

I would get anew Mobo if the current one had problems before, just make sure the Mobo your buying supports your CPU (the exact model aswell)

CPU's are individually put through lengthy and strenuous test's.

Motherboards are pumped straight off the production line to the supplier and then to you.

Only if you take my advice and that it's the motherboard that's the problem. Computers are like cars, there are a hell of allot of individual parts that make up larger parts. Due to their complexity there is a wide range of things that can go wrong. Choosing the right manufacturer/brand can be misleading due to false reviews or arrogant reviewers that refuse to cover the real issues to avoid 'burning bridges' (Some are scared to address issues because it can result in a loss of income or 'reputation') which are held up by big headed manufacturers/brands that refuse to listen to the issues they create.
The point of my rant? Choose the right manufacturer/brand to avoid these problems.
This is easy to say but hard to do and requires allot more than a few hours of research because depending on where you look depends on what answer you'r told (correct or incorrect).
The difference between a manufacturer - how its made and the parts that are used.
The difference between a brand - the way they treat their customers (whether or not they choose to ignor customer complaints or address them) and how much they charge or extort in some cases.
Eg: The best Corsair products are their all-in-one water cooler kits (CPU) but they don't manufacture it, its made for Corsair by another company.

Aussie Alex Thanks for your info, yeah come to think about it I noticed that the keyboard and mouse would not power on when connected either. It is probably because it did not post or something, but just want to put that info in there .

Yeah my friend is strap for cash, but he will try to get it repaired since it is still under warranty. Probably get another mobo when he gets money.

RMA it, your friend should not have to pay a single cent more for a fault created by MSI.

Also please rep if you like my post, I've been ninja editing it so re-read it. You may have missed stuff that I've added.

If he takes it to a 'repair' store they will just tell him the same thing, then charge for the time they spent figuring out what you already know. Repair stores are out to make every dollar they can. When I worked for one they gave me 1/3rd of the minimum hourly rate and told people that parts where dead, only to replace them to make money and put the so called 'dead' parts back on the shelf to sell as 'good' second hand parts. I refused to do so and wound up loosing the job.

Thanks for the rep.

Sometimes. The Washington Capitals owner is known to revoke season tickets of those who bash the team on message boards.
