hell, you could find a new 5770 for 120 too!
5770 = 4870 while using less power and running cooler.

550Ti cant come close to a 6870. 550Ti's compete with 6850's.
6870's compete with 560Ti's, and 560Ti wins a little bit. but with a small OC, the 6870 can beat a stock 560Ti.
ok, so for $120-$160 what would you recommend?

At that price, definitely. It's much stronger than the 550 Ti btw, don't bother with that card.

This is how all these cards compare at 1280x1024 (nearly equal in pixels to 1440x900), from a review done last week.

ok, thanks booty warrior, you da man!

that 460 looks hard to pass up... does that card generate a lot of heat? my 8800gtx runs pretty hot... how would a 460 compare?

460s are pretty cool, despite being Fermi cards. I haven't tried one with that cooler specifically, but I used to have 1GB 460 Hawks in SLI and they never went over 65c full load.

It'd probably be a toss up tbh. You see how close they are as single cards and SLI and Crossfire both scale really well with current drivers on both sides, so take your pick.

I don't play SC2, but I'm almost positive it would. IIRC a 1GB 460 can max it at 1080p. It's more demanding on the cpu than gpu. I'm sure someone else can give you input though.
