Where would you make improvements?

I have gotten my buddy back into building PCs. He hasn't built one in a couple years now so he's kinda behind. Here's what he has...
AMD Athon II 250 Regor
4GB DDR2
750W Power Supply
MSI k9n6pgm2-v2 Motherboard Here's the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...MSI-_-13130241
500GB HDD 3.0 GB/s
HIS 4670HD

Obviously, money is tight and he can't afford to do everything at once. Just curious as to what areas you guys would upgrade first?? He wants to play BF3 on it in October and doesn't need to run it at super high resolutions, just better then he could now.

Upgrade the CPU to a Phenom II x6 1100T and the motherboard to something that uses DDR3 as standard. Then replace the RAM to at least 6GB.

So start with the CPU, then the motherboard and RAM once he has more money

I suggest getting the CPU, MoBo and RAM all at once. This provides a little insurance in case a part needs RMA'd. Then go for the Video card.

EDIT: or just start buying parts one by one for a new build until BF3 comes out.

its amazing how fast everything gets outdated!

Yea, but it's okay. There isn't a game that really pushes the full potential of a PC. Crysis and Metro 2033 are big pushers, but it's not like you can't play them with lower settings.

Wait for the AMD FX Series processor. Then JUMP on a new CPU/mobo/RAM.
You might actually want to start with the RAM while it's cheap; current 900 series chipset mobo prices are a bit inflated according to a trusted source though.

I'd wait for Bulldozer, not too long to launch now.
