Vertex 3 slow bench - Page 2

How is the drive performing otherwise? Any random BSOD's or does the system sometimes hang? Some of these drives have been having issues.

Also, my guess is that it is the Marvell controller. They kind of suck and its the only SATAIII controller on your board, the x58 chipset doesn't support SATAIII.

That being said, which port is your drive hooked up to? Meaning which sata connector on the motherboard? The first 6 should be the Intel ones, is it plugged in there or the other two, which should be colored differently?

Unfortunately, SATA controllers are hardware - not software.

You can buy PCI-E SATA 3 cards but if you want one with a controller that will give you the advertised Vertex3 speeds, you have to spend $200.

My advice is don't waste your money like that, think of your Vertex3 purchase as a future proof for when you upgrade your CPU/mobo in a few years.

No, it's hardware based

Don't worry though, those 550 read/write speeds are mainly sequential, which doesn't really matter on an SSD that's running the OS.

The Marvell controller that they speak of is a chip on the motherboard that controls the SATA ports. The only way to get around this is to get a motherboard with native SATAIII support.

Unfortunately, it's not as simple as downloading a driver.

Ah OK thanks very much for your help guys it's much appreciated.
I'm getting a new intel CPU 990x very shortly and a new motherboard in the future so i'll keep all of this in mind.

Don't worry about sequential performance, unless you like to copy large files around very often it doesn't matter. You still have performance where it counts, random access.
