I think you would have a pretty tough time with just an X850 watter trying to power dual 580s under load.

looks like a pretty big waste of cash there.

First of all , it's ocn , so it's in our nature , as hardware enthusiasts to make a " I can build a better one for that kind of $$$ " statement . With this I also apologise for my above post ..

Second ,

If i had 5.3k to throw in a sistem it would look like this :

i7 970 - 590$
Evga 4-way sli - 380$
12GB Dominator GT - 270$
4 1TB F3s in raid for data = 320$
a 120GB vertex 3 for os and programs - 270$
A silverstone rv01 case - 230$
Silverstone ST1500 - 380$
4-way SLI Evga 3GB 580s - 2360$

Total : 4800$ .

5300$-4800$ = 500$ (that i'd use for watercooling)

Pretty sure you can get a nice WC for 500$ . But then of course , that's just my dream PC . My real one is far more modest haha .

Well to me , the 980x/990x's price just doesn't justify .

The 970 is still a 32nm six-core Gulftown .

But , it doesn't clock as high as the "x" series .. So what ? I'd br using watercooling not ln2 ..

Let say you found your dream computer build for $5300, what about your monitor, speaker, computer chair, computer table, keyboard, mouse and rest of the goodies like steering wheels for racing games? Just imagine when you have such a godly computer with quad gtx580 and you run it under a 1080P 22-24in LCD monitor, low end computer chair, small computer table, basic headset without 7.1 surround speaker, regular keyboard and mouse, makes no sense isn't it?

Instead I would spend like $2500-3000 on the computer tower and then the rest goes into other goodies to maximize my gaming experience.
