[IGN] Breaking the MMOuld: Moving on from World of WarCraft - Page 8

Once WoW really started to get popular the game was transformed into a self sustaining cash cow. Funny part is most couldn't even see it.

I thought that was the entire point of every MMO.

Not from the paying players perspective. They shifted focus from mechanics that made the game fun and replaced them with nothing but time sinks, carefully calculated and refreshed every few months (just about when most had cranked out the time needed to get the latest hotness, oh look new crap!), playing off peoples greed and vanity. It's kind of like that prestige crap in call of duty, or the insane title in WoW. Just because someone decides to waste countless hours to get these worthless achievements for a gold star next to your name it doesn't mean you have any skill. You just have patience for monotonous BS.

Collect all 75 titles even though you can only use one at a time! I don't know about you but that doesn't do anything for me. They on the other hand are laughin all the way to the bank. What takes them 20 min to develop takes players weeks to get.

I did have fun killing geared out morons though until people had no reason to world pvp anymore.

Did you enjoy world PvP? I did, until I realized how retarded things get when faction imbalance occurs (and it's always there).
The concept of World PvP will always fail as long as there are factions and no way to control the balance of factions.
Instancing is the only way to keep things fair. WinterGrasp was their last attempt at "controlled" world PvP (no limits on players initially) and our typical match would go something like 180 horde vs 30 alliance. Wooo we're 1-shotting people with Tenacity, but with only 30 of us we're not going to get any objectives completed.
Now it's Tol'Barad, where the total player-limit is decided by the weaker faction - this makes the most sense, but it's still not World PvP since the whole area is fenced off/guarded. Some decent world PvP still takes place on Tol'Barad daily zones, but the faction imbalance becomes overwhelming fairly quickly.
