What switch is best for me?

Thread Starter
I play RTS, FPS, RPG's... Really a variety of games... I tend to stay up late at night, and wouldn't want to wake the rest of my household... So I'm guessing here that the Cherry MX Blues are out of the question?

I heard that blacks have about the same force required as rubber domes... Is this true? If so, then I don't really think any stiffness is an issue? I haven't been able to have an opportunity to type on any of these switches, the closest I've gotten was playing with arrow keys on a Black Widow... And that is not typing, nor does it let me test the others... I would rather judge in person, then on a computer.

In summary, for my situation, I play a variety of games, I type a lot, and game a lot. And I would prefer less noise if the Blues/Browns are even that noisy, and If what I said about the blacks and rubber domes is true, stiffness shouldn't be an issue... What switch is best for me?

I honestly always recommend brown to people just starting out unless they really want something else. It is also pretty quiet as long as you aren't bottom out. Blacks are nice for FPS gaming not as much for RTS since you want to know when a key press has registered.

With a rubber dome am I always bottoming out? Will I stop bottoming out as I get used to my mechanical keyboard? How hard is it to press the key compared to a rubber dome? Will a Brown Keyboard be irritating to me if I play a FPS game or type and I'm receiving these bumps all the time??? Sorry for the questions. Just in need of answers

A rubber dome works by bottoming out which is the thing people like about mechs. Honestly I've had my board for almost a month and bottoming out hasn't stopped but I can tell I'm not slamming it down, if sound is a huge issue they soft landing pads on elitekeyboards.com that sound like they work pretty well. Browns are easier to press but still are enough that you won't be pressing a key by mistake. The bumps aren't enough to get in your way they more tell you that you've pushed far enough, like a rubber dome stops when it's registered but the mech lets you go further and not jam your fingers. I game all the time on my browns and I love it.

You wont be able to find anything locally besides the Black Widow Ultimate unless you live in taiwan. For a good keyboard you're going to have to get it online, I would check out the OCN Duckys or if you're a student the Das does have a nice student discount.

If you email Das with a scan of your student ID you can get the discount. If you want an OCN ducky they have ABS and PBT keycaps, the ABS are cheaper and will be find. The PBT is a better quality but if you want these I would wait for the next batch (should be in less than 2 weeks) the current ones are having issues with the paint infill wearing away quickly.

TBH I'm actually not interested in the Ducky... As much as I'd like to show support for my new found pride and joy that is Overclock.net... Haha. I guess I'm sold on the Das... What keyboard do you have? Is it possible for me to buy it through some retailer... Like get them to order it for me? I just am not really looking forward to paying 150ish bucks keyboard shipping and all you know?

Also, i'm somewhat dispointed with the fact that there is no media keys lol.. I like to use my keyboard as a volume thingimagig... Reaching up for my volume wheel on my headset is a pain in the butt.. And in addition, that shiny case to the Das is really gonna be difficult to keep clean even if I clean it every day.... Still gonna be grose in the mean time llol
