op...make sure you add an extra fan... makes a difference, hyper 212 is one of the best cooler for money. cant go wrong with it. good luck. its a little bit tricky to put on...so be careful. make sure you use silver compound for the thermal grease not ceramic. turn the heatsink so you can blow the air towsrds the back. its facing the wrong way. face it how socom hero has it.

so.... i was right! it is pointing the wrong way! and you say silver? i have some arctic silver 5, i guess i will do some more scraping and spreading

and how would i straighten up the cables?

ok... about the layout of the heat sink.... the way in my pictures:72C highest temp in prime
the way in your picture:80C highest temp in prime
this was 4.6GHZ 1.37V
Those temps are probably high due to the high voltage on your overclock. Tone that back a bit and test for stability. Arctic Silver also takes a LONG time to cure, almost 200 hrs. It is a good paste, but many (including myself) are moving away from it due to its cure time/thickness and price. I'm not an expert on the 2500k, so I would recommend you browse around for another thread with better info or make another thread in the Intel CPUs section.

As for cabling, see my pic. You just need a few zip ties here and there for better airflow and just to have less mess in general. Trust me, when you open up your case months after you built your comp. and find a mess of wires going everywhere you're gonna be like . So save yourself the hassle and tie 'em down.

i am no expert in overclocking(i am 100% new to this) but when i have the exact same voltage, the exact same clock, and it works better the way i have it in my pics.... i think the only variable there is placement.... in fact i am 110% it is.... now on to voltage: the STOCK voltage is 1.25, i have it on 1.368(1.37 if you round up) how is that high voltage?
also: i have all of my cables tied up to one side, no mess, just look at those pics again.....

edit: i have a mid tower, one where i can not run cables behind my mobo, if anyone who has the same case has any suggestion on how to do it another way, i am all ears..... but as it stands now i would have to take the mobo out again to re cable it any better

I would definitely tone the voltage down. If you go over 1.35 on air with that cooler, your temps will really suffer. Keep voltage at stock or AUTO in BIOS, try fixed or offset and then see if you can run Prime with no blue screen. Tune them up one or two notches at a time if that happens. OCing takes a lot of patience and sometimes takes longer than expected. Again, I don't have a SandyBridge so I am not 100% certain of my own 1.35 rule. But that is truly a voltage for watercooling style OC.

well...... question....if it does not get above 72C is it hurting my temps? i thought 72C in prime was good right? also.... i do not know about the voltage on this mobo.... when i have it on auto and i go 4.6GHZ it goes up to 1.368,m but when i try to do 4.7 on auto it ups the voltage to 1.46.... then when i go into the bios and set the voltage to 1.36 it stays at 1.368 the whole time, even when it goes down to 1.6GHZ..... how in the world do i get it to vary the voltage like it does on auto?

Sometimes when you OC a chip that needs more voltage, AUTO will over-volt it. You cannot adjust voltage when you manually enter it unless you use offset. I would try using a good low voltage first then go up from there. Otherwise, ask around on here and someone with better 2500k knowledge will help you a lot more than I can with that chip.

72C is perfectly fine, but not for 24/7 hardcore folding scenarios. If you run IntelBurnTest (IBT) it will get hotter than it does with prime. That temp is safe, but I recommend staying in the low-mid 60s, not in the 70s all the time. Still, much better than the title of this thread! xD

Hope someone with more experience on the chip can reply after me!

Personally, I am not that terribly concerned with the temps of CPUs since I've seen what my laptop runs at generally. But that's a different case. For a desktop CPU I would never even fathom running a CPU beyond 60*C for 24/7 usage regardless of the reason. My old Phenom II 940 @ 3.7GHz never peaked above 55*C and I thought THAT was too hot.
