PS4 Info: Development, news, and rumor mill.

Thread Starter
As we all know the PS4 development is underway:

http://www.tomsguide.com/us/PlayStat...ews-11339.html

Many are speculating the PS4 will have GTX480/GTX580 performance. It would be amazing to have that kind of performance in a console.

Sony Europe VP(or some high up over there) says itll have no better graphics than current PS3 and will be marketed towards women....

EDIT: I love the claim that PS3 is more powerful than the 360. They have nearly equal processing power and the Xbox has a better GPU.....

Lol, but seriously are you actually saying the PS3 is not more powerful than the 360 or just trolling?

Im serious, CPU wise they are pretty equal (PS3 has a 8 (or is it 7) core cell processor while the XBOX has a 3 core cell processor derivative that can handle 2 threads per core and both at 3.2 GHz), and GPU wise the 360 is ahead (Radeon 1950 over GTX 7800).

Plus my 360 got more PPD when it was folding than any PS3 ever did

The cell processor, if properly utilized, is far more powerful than the Xbox cpu. Aside from the technicality, games like Uncharted 3, God War 3 and the upcoming Battlefield 3 are superior on PS3 in comparison to Xbox 360 because they don't completely rely on the gpu for graphics processing. Some of it is offloaded to the Cell, as it should be. The PS3 GPU is inferior but the cell processor makes up for it more than enough. The trade off is complicated coding and more time consuming development. But in the end graphics are better on the PS3 because it is more powerful.

in the end all of the games still have a 720p (or lower CoDMW2 is 600p) native resolution and nobody can tell the difference.

and my xbox still made more ppd!!!

I would not be surprised to see Sony used the cell for graphics processing in the PS4 that's where the cell would shine anyway.

True, 720p is the console standard with a few exceptions being 1080p and some bad ports being sub 720p.

I am hoping with the next generation of consoles, 1080p becomes the standard, in fact Microsoft and Sony should make it a policy not to release anything with sub 1080p resolution.

From what I've read on the net I would think the specs for the PS4 would be something like this:

Processor: 32 or 22 nm Cell with 32 SPEs and 4 PPEs (possible performance of 1 TeraFLOPS) almost 5 times the processing power of PS3
GPU: something along the lines of a GTX 560 equivalent
System memory: 512Mb-1Gb XDR2 (2nd generation XDR) clocked at 6.4Ghz (at least twice as fast the XDR currently in PS3s)

Also rumored to be 100% backward compatible with PS3 games.
