At that point, just get two GTX 580's...
2 580s do not handle every game perfectly. I have sli 580s and i cannot turn ubersampling in witcher 2 on without getting what i consider unplayable performance levels and i am only at 1920x1080 so i imagine with a higher resolution it is considerably worse.

I put them together, to point. Half of these configurations are running some variation of Eyefinity. It's quite a benefit for graphic design.

I've never seen a BSOD from addition of a third monitor. Never. I don't understand what the "extreme tessellation" (spelling discluded) means? You mean a BSOD results from extreme tessellation settings? Nothing like a broad, sweeping allegation to undermine. It is, though, absolute nonsense.
I am an Alienware admin and my office is virtually an enthusiast office...We test/build and "create" the PC's that you see every day released by Alienware.

I have always had problems with crossfire...I quite honestly don't care if you do or don't. Their drivers have always been poor and their customer support, lax.

There are HUNDREDS of threads on this issue sweeping across these forums.

Almost every single 6990 in this office, suffers from some fault or another...Either BFBC2 breaks down and white-screens VIA driver failure or tessellation (new keyboard so I missed the 2nd L) occurs to where geometrical shapes are literally all you can see...Third monitors entirely crash the systems...

I also have 1 PC without any problems what-so-ever on the 6990's...That doesn't change the fact that 5/6 go down faster than a drunk prom date.

The 590's are not without their faults but, if a driver related issue arises, I can fix it easily...Why? Open source editing.

The 590's also have issues at the moment with many of the same things...For example I have extreme issues with CS6 beta on the 590 but, I can run it flawlessly on the 6990's...Issues like these, make me switch back and forth constantly thus, I have a dual-boot. Each on their own SSD, each with the same core programs.

As I said, they both have their issues...I simply find the 590 to be the "ultimate" single card solution when compared to the 6990...

Many of our customers that purchased the 6990's, have actually asked to switch and I often honor their decisions barring a few "issues".

Again, as an admin and someone who tests every single PC we put out, rigorously, I find the 590 to be a significantly better solution when it comes to the average user.

P.S. Discluded, is not a word in the english dictionary...I believe you meant excluded.

maybe but atleast the 6990 wont blow up because amd used **** parts, unlike nvidia

See, this is a misinformed, really idiotic statement.

Nvidia released a card, said don't OC it over X...The end user OC'd it over X and...You're blaming Nvidia because the end user is too stupid to read a release?

Brilliance right there, sheer brilliance.

+1

It really has nothing to do with nvidia. Every card has an overclock/voltage limit, and every card is at risk of breaking if you ignore said limits. If end users want to risk their hardware, so be it, let them. If you want the performance of 2x580's, then buy 2 580's. Dont expect to buy the dumbed down versions on 1 card, and have all of that power at your disposal.

Witcher 2 is that demanding? Isn't this only DX9? I was expecting Crysis 1 and Metro 2033... But Crysis 1 without any mods, maxed out at 16XQAA gets me mins of 55 and thats perfect gameplay right there and why I bought these two beasts... I completely agree that these two cards can't max out any game... Thats what overclocking and PC Enthusiasts are all about right?

You will have... 18 fps in Witcher 2 if I recall with 2x 580s and Ubersampling.

There is no non-LN2 overclocking in the world that will get you 60 fps in Witcher 2 with 2 580s.

The only "enthusiast" thing about maxing Witcher 2 is enthusiastically opening up two more 580s. Then unenthusiastically receiving the bill.

@OP
Misinformation is misinformation. No 2nd gen 590s (at least nothing official, and the rumors mentioned were publicly denied by nVidia, and then confirmed by EVGA to be false.) One Frankenstein card called MARS II from ASUS will be released but at a 1,000$, and only one thousand of them will be made. If I didn't have my 590s, I would have taken 2.... or I still might
