Can I OC 6950s?

Thread Starter
Hello...

I currently have 5850s crossfire at 930/1350. They run pretty fast.

I'm looking forward to sell them and get 6950s crossfire. Can I OC the 6950s? If so, How well are they for OCing? Will it be a good move to upgrade from my 5850s @ 930/1350 to 6950s?

Can the NON referenced 6950 cards OC as well as the referenced cards? I don't mind if I can't unlock the shaders. I just want to OC it.... I saw a Guy with High OC but the card was referenced.

Thanks!

Yes you can, and I hear they get to 1 GHz core fairly easily.

As far as is it good to upgrade...

I'd say wait till the 7xxx's come out, you'll be fine on Crossfire 5850's till then.

IMO, its not worth it, unless you can find some 6950's for super cheap. 7xxx series is supposed to be out before 2011.

I would imagine the OC headroom depends on the card, but you can unlock (some) 6950s to a 6970. You might browse this thread for more information.

Ohhh 7xxx cards? When are they comming? I've heard the are coming out with a new and revolutionary GPU? Is that true?

I would get the XFX non-referenced 6950s

Yea Stick to 2 5850s. They will outperform a 580 in most cases especially if overclocked.

My TFIII goes to 1019MHz on core so I think You should OC them at least to 980-1000MHz with good case airflow.
