Fractal Design R3 - Fan Controller - Do You Use It?

I've had my Fractal Design R3 case for a couple of weeks now, and it's a great case. However, I was hoping it would be a little quieter. I suspect that the fact it's louder than I was hoping may be due to either the fact I'm using an extra fan in the form of the one on my Corsair H50 (so the rear Fractal fan is now exhausting out the top, hence the top isn't sealed any more), or it could be because I'm running the fan cases direct from the PSU. So... If I put the fan controller on, and run the fans at lower speeds, would this help to reduce noise (I would hope so), and also what effect would it have on the cooling?

Thanks,

Dave.

It would obviously help to reduce noise, but also reduces CFM.

You think the R3 is loud!? I had 2 front, 2 top, 1 side, and 2 fans on my H50 and it was pretty quiet. It's all about the kinds of fans you are using.

OK, maybe loud isn't the right word . However, the noise level is a little higher than I was expecting - it's about the same level as my old Antec 300, although that only had one intake (the H50) and one exhaust (the top fan), so I guess the R3 sound deadening is doing it's job, as it has one more fan to deal with.

I would think it depends more on the type/kind of fan you're using than the speed of the fan. I am using the FD fan controller to control a FD 140mm fan at maximum and I can't hear the fan unless I put my ears right on top of the fan/case.
