Upgraded my comp, help on overclocking - Page 2

Im sorry for being so annoying guys, but I just wan't someone to give me an answer and a reason why, i've decided on using the tower 120 because its currently 25 dollars and I heard it was better than the zalman by at least 5 degrees. Would this change anyones mind on overclocking or is just because of how old my motherboard is which I still don't understand why because it has a pretty good review for overclocking based off of the tomshardware of it.

Aulex..

First off I still have that board in my dad's computer and it is an excellent board back in the day. It is an amazing overclocker. You need a fan for the northbridge, that is key. I have screwed on a 40mm fan that I bought for about 6 bucks. It gets very hot and needs to be cooled with high overclocks.

Get a cooler that does 775, 1155/6 and 1366 such as the 212+. That CPU does 266 FSB with a multiplier of 9. With 800Mhz ram, you can run max 400 FSB. So 400 X 9 is 3.6Ghz. Now keep in mind that the ram may go higher it depends on the ram itself. That chip should do 3.6 since the e6600 was a great overclocker. Hope that helps. And I have run up to 380FSB on that board before.

The Tuniq tower was the best cooler when the P965 was out. I got the Mugen instead because that was the second best cooler and it was available in Canada. The pro of getting a top cooler is that you can still use it. I still use mine to this day (5 years). I would rather get a 212+ because it has newer mounting brackets for new sockets. A big plus when you upgrade. I am having a hard time finding brackets for mine for 1155.

3.6 is a sweet spot. Why wouldn't you go to 3.6. If the temps and voltage are not high, it's a bonus for you. You are on Overclock.net aren't you

Haha yes I am im just hoping my power supply can handle it and im very scared of my cpu dying, also im mostly getting the tower 120 because its 25 bucks currently and im probably going to get a new computer in 3 or so years so I really don't carry about future transferring of my cpu cooler, the sockets will have probably changed by then, because of the new ivy bridge. So in hindsight my cpu cooler is a good choice, am I correct.

Also on a side note im just wondering why everyone else said not to overclock.

What power supply do you have. That tower is fine then. the 212+ is only 28 bucks.

You are fine. People probably say not to overclock because it is an old board or don't know what it is lol.
