Which HD4890 is the BEST in OC? - Page 2

Mine goes to about 1025/1135 with little to no artifacting. Best clocks with benchmarking and a lot of artifacting was 1060/1150 (100mhz oc for core/mem). I leave mine at 1000/1100 most of the time though.

I wish I had frozen the Toxic before I sold it. I hit 1160/1200 on the XFX card at -40C... then I killed it

I have the XOC arriving tomorrow though... hope it's a good one!

By "the stock blower style heatsink" you mean the reference "turbine" that comes with most of the regular non-OCed HD4890?

What are the stock clocks of the best revisions of XFX cards? For example the XXX series? Maybe I can find them by the stock clocks...

The 6+8 configuration isn't actually what makes the difference. However, when XFX switched to the cheaper non-reference PCB, they switched to using the 6+6 configuration. It's just a sign. Yes, that is also the heatsink I mean.

Here's Newegg's product page for the XXX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150368
XFX HD-489A-ZDDC

It came with 900/975 clocks.

So the old design with 6+8 plugs had better OC potential? I think that the "old one" will be best for the AC TT Pro as it is fully compatible with reference design. Thanks a lot, I'll serch for them. As I see there are already some of the XFX on the market that you told me not to buy.

The difference between revisions of XFX cards is so gentle that regular user can easily make a mistake and choose the worse one

Do they (the good ones) have a software-controlled vGPU & vMEM? I think that I should avoid units that don't allow me to change the voltage by the software, right?
Which of the other brands cards should I also avoid? As I told before - cooler is not a problem at all.

All of the XFX cards with the stock cooler allow both GPU and memory voltage control.

The biggest difference is XFX went with a budget PCB (the red one with 6+6 power). They messed some stuff up and people were getting terrible scores and performance with them. Instead of getting 10K in Vantage they were getting 6-7K.

There was a huge thread about it. I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: Here it is! http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/634...bad+batch+4890

Lots of info there.

At our local e-market I've found an HD4890, exactly this one:

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presenta...01&lid=1&leg=0

http://allegro.pl/sapphire-radeon-hd...692238170.html

It costs $162.5 with shipping in USD. Do you think it is worth it?
There is also a HD5850 frim Sapphire for approximately $205 in USD...

And AFAIK HD5850 is much more powerful than HD4890, right?

I'm not sure how pricing is in Poland, but I wouldn't pay more than $90 for a 4890 here in the US, maybe up to $105 for a Toxic. All of the ones I've bought recently have been between $75 and $100.

I'd be inclined toward the 5850, personally.
