[VR-Zone] Intel Core i7-980 Gulftown on sale from June 26 - Page 4

I can hear Cinema 4D, Premiere Pro and Handbrake in my HDD calling out to me. Their saying "Get me 2 more cores and better instruction sets!" devil.gif

If you're shelling out for Intel, might as well get the best for your money. Maybe I'm off base, but it seems like investing in an i5 or i7 that's not a sandy bridge for enthusiast or even general performance applications is just a poor financial decision.

970 Quantities were unavailable after Three days. However 2600K's are still available. I was pondering a decision for the 970 but I may just receive a 2600K off Retail Edge.

I PRAY, the 970 gets even cheaper now. But really Intel come on, I was saddened to see the 25x multi.

I would wait till Bulldozer 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 core CPU hits the table before you go purchasing any more hardware... Once we see any one of these chips on the bench I think we will know what direction to go, for sure...

I'm waiting & you should be too...

Patience is not just a virtue with a reward, it's a clear sign of intelligence... So do the smart thing, and just wait! Prices are already starting to fall, by September many will be ready to start making those purchases...
This. If AMD only matches Socket 1366 i7 performance per core (ie. an 8-core has 33% more computing power vs. Gulftown) Intel will be screwed trying to unload their i7 970's and 980s. And everyone will wonder why they spent $600 on an i7 980 just 2 months before.

So where is the i7 980? I'm looking for the i7 970 to drop in price. Lol.

Intel retires the 970 and drops the 980 @ $583.

It's the same deal as with the 920 and the 930.

There is no reason for Intel to cut the price of the 970s when they can simply label them 980 and push them out the door at the same MSRP.
