Computer Lock Ups

Thread Starter
Hey guys couple symptoms that I need help diagnosing. My computer started becoming unstable so I scrapped the overclock I was using. However, upon next boot my computer locked up while I wasn't attending it. So It was idle at stock settings and locked. I have ordered new RAM because I using pretty cheap OCZ RAM and wanted to upgrade. Another interesting update is that sometimes the BIOS fails to retain settings and I have to reset up. Usually after a crash like mentioned above. Can a bad BIOS battery cause a crash? Or can bad memory cause BIOS to reset? I'm already replacing the RAM as soon as I can but any other info on what i should be looking for will help.

Thx,
Mike

2x4 or 4x2 OCZ sticks?
RAM getting the correct voltage?
Have you tried with just 1 stick?

What's the factory settings? If it's 1600, lower it to 1333 and change the lower the timings. I know your pain with ocz's ram. It nearly is never is able to hit 1600. Also, try bumping your DRAM voltage up 1 notch. That might help. Leave your cpu at factory frequency and use auto for voltage.

Just to get back to the op. Can a dead BIOS battery cause a crash? I'm already replacing the RAM so those factors really don't matter unless the new RAM has the same problems.
