New Build... Suggestions - Page 2

lol, that's simple. 4GB is the right amount. Times that by 2 for being an OCN member and you get 8GB.

But seriously-

If you play online games and have communication up like TS3 or vent + some music playing via itunes or whatever + playing on a 25x16 30 inch monitor (like the OP stated), the extra RAM will come in handy for task switching. On top of that, RAM is ridiculously cheap right now. The link I posted is less than 10 bucks/GB shipped.

Okay, so here is what I cam up with....

Intel DP67BG P67 motherboard... I choose this because it has build in WifiN $190
Intel Core i5-2500K... $220
Intel 510 250GB SSD... $600
G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 CL7 1.5V... $65
HIS Radeon HD6950 2GB GDDR5 Video Card... Apparently this card is a reference card with good overclocking and can be unlocked to the 6970... $285
Zalman 9500 Fan... $43
Adesso Mechanical Keyboard... $87
StarTech 6ft Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable $15

I am holding off on the 30" monitor for now I guess... I want to get the Dell because I currently have a Dell U2410 but it is $250 more... I figure if I like the video card and I want to I can always add another and do CrossFire (doubt it though). I am also able to add 8GB more if I want too.

What do you guys thing? I am still open to suggestions on video card, motherboard, memory, ect.

I would personally get a different ssd, that one is out of control expensive.

What kind of psu are you thinking about getting?
I have no experience with Intel branded motherboards so I have nothing to say there
I've never heard of adesso brand mechanicals
I would get either a silver arrow or D14 cpu cooler, 212+ is best bang for your buck.

I actually figured I would just hold off on a CPU cooler. The stock one will do for now while I determine if I can retrofit my waterblock for the new socket.

I have a Silverstone OP650 powersupply. It has a 54A rating for 12V... seems likely plenty to me.

I have never heard of Adesso either but the reviews are good and the price is right!

I have used a few Intel branded motherboards. I kind of prefer them to the gimicky stuff you get from ASUS and company.

You carry a valid point about the price of the SSD... looking at that now.

I'll put in my advice that I know I can help with:
CPU
2500k will be perfectly fine.
Mobo
The higher end Z68 offerings from Gigabyte are my favorites, and MSI looks good too.
RAM
Pick up 8 GB of what I have, the reviews speak for themselves.
GPU
I am not one to screw around with unlocking because many times you end with an unstable card. I would take a look at 2x560 Ti's or a 570, the 570 offers less performance initially but allows for expandability in thr future.
SSD
I am not a guru here, all I know is that A-Data and Intel are the brands you should be looking at.
HDD
Samsung F3 1 TB for storage, hands-down.

Hmm...guess boards with built-in Wifi are few and far between. Mostly H67 boards have them, not many P67 boards at all. Few combo deals with that board and SSDs (hopefully enough space for you though)...the Crucial M4 is a good drive:

Yes, that is a reference model 6950. Get it soon as they are hard to find now for a reasonable price. However, I don't really recommend doing the flash to 6970 BIOS method. Instead flash to a modded 6950 bios to unlock shaders, then overclock the card. To me, it's the safest method. Here's a guide:

Also might want to look into the Scythe Mugen 3 for an air cooler. I'd rather suggest the Mugen 2 (great cooler for the price), but it looks like it has been replaced:
