Jeez, I didn't have to pay a cent for my JBL SRX728S...

EDIT: Don't bash on those speakers. I've heard good reviews.

Another vote for Swans, also lets stop posting those logitech sets on here. Yes, a lot of people own them... but their build quality/sound is subpar for the price compared to the Swans and Promedias.

Parties? Powerful sound that doesn't distort? You, my friend, would love the speakers I have. An Audioengine S8 woofer:
http://audioengineusa.com/Store/Audioengine-S8

They go for $349 new, but I got mine much cheaper B-stock on e-bay for $250. Paired with a pair of Klipsch RB-61 speakers, which have since been replaced with the RB-61 II:
http://www.klipsch.com/rb-61-ii-bookshelf-speakers-pair

You can get them on e-bay open box with the full 5-year warranty for $400:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-RB-61-II...ht_3538wt_1139

And I have a Sonic Impact Super-T amp which is no longer produced, but you can get them on Amazon used:

This will make for one BADASS 2.1 speaker system.

This will put the Logitech Z-5500 and Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 to SHAME. Note that the amp is insanely good, but doesn't put out a LOT of power, which is fine if you get sensitive speakers like the RB-61s. Trust me. The thing cranks.

I'd rather take 5% THD than the 10% THD most others have,Logitech doesn't even specify THD rating.

I've heard them in the store, they're a awesome 2.1 set. I wish I would have gotten them when they were on sale for $100.
