LCD or Plasma?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, so I've been shopping around a bit for a new TV. Before I go to the store and actually take a look at some screens to get a visual outlook on my final purchase, I was trying to find some info and suggestions first.

I'm not looking to blow the bank here, and am looking to go around ~40" screen.

I think for the money right now, an LED wouldn't be my best purchase because as I said, I'm not trying to blow a ton of money

This left me with LCD or Plasma... Looking at the TV's, the Plasma prices seemed pretty reasonable as compared to some LCD's of the same brand. From what I understand the blacks are darker, faster refresh rates which is good for gaming, and image burning is less of an issue with new gen TV's... and as for the fact that most are 720p... I don't really plan on hooking my PC up to it, I have an NAS to stream media to my ps3, and most games aren't even 1080p right now, plus I don't have HD cable.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks OCN!

Well the cheaper the better (keeping quality in mind). I was looking to max at like the 699$ level.. but if I could snag a good 499$ I'd obviously rather go that route. Ya my current TV now is LCD... smaller though, this is a size upgrade.

I didn't even consider plasma till my friend mentioned them tonight as a decent gaming TV

Don't really care about 3D.. The feature would be maybe cool down the road but not in the market specifically for 3Dtv

Don't fall into the LED trap, you'll sometimes shell out cash without realizing it's not the best panel out there. Honestly, LED isn't all it's cracked up to be. I was in my local Future Shop lately to buy my next TV. I was looking at all these LED/LCD TV's and honestly the difference is not worth $150-$200. Sure, you get a thinner TV but woopty doo?

I got my Sony 46" EX500 on boxing day for $749, it has the deepest blacks I've ever seen on a TV/Monitor below $2000, It's really gorgeous. The Samsung LED TV next to it for $900 had terrible blacks and okay whites (demoing the same source)

Why LCD has a slower responce time. Plasma is like a flat screen CRT only better. You also get deeper blacks and zero backlight bleed gauranteed, because Plasma TV's dont have a blacklight.

A high end Panasonic or Samsung plasma would be the best for gaming and even better for movies.
