My First (Partial) Build!! From Pentium to Sandybridge!

Hey all!

Intro:
This is my first actual build!!! Hopefully I don't screw anything up! *Knock on wood* I'm upgrading from a hand-me down that my cousin gave to my dad/family. Upgrading most main parts (aka CPU, Mobo, Ram, PSU, and Heatsink.) No gpu though, stickin' with the good old 8800gt which is the only part not originally from my cousin, but from my brother after he won the signed GTX 285 from OCN.

So, I'll start from the beginning. THE VERY BEGINNING. I got the computer I'm currently running, Reptar, because I wanted to start getting into the custom PC crowd, more specifically into better graphic'd gaming, which was impossible on my factory dell desktop. I barely knew anything about computers at the time, only that it was a cool looking and was able to fit a better gpu than what could fit in my previous dell desktop. My dad had gotten this old thing from my cousin and he NEVER used it, he only uses his laptop now, so I decided to take it off his hands. My brother put in the 8800gt, and I was ready to do some intense gaming. I was pumped until I realized home crappy everything else was. It was rockin' a Pentium 4, Intel Desktop Board D915PBL, and two pata hard drives. You can probably guess why I named it Reptar, as long as you have watched the Rugrats lachen.gif. One of the pata hard drives I am definitely discluding from this upgrade because it is slow and loud as @#$%. I established that the Pentium 4 was definitely bottle necking my whole rig, so I knew it needed to go, as well as the old 40gb hard drive. I got inspired a month or so ago to upgrade, and now here I am, ready to rock.

THE PARTS in which I am upgrading to:

Pictures will be coming soon, and I'm going to be adding pictures as I go. CPU is shipping out tomorrow. Which brings me to another thing I wanted to say. EVERYTHING for this build was purchased either off OCN or [H]ardforum. Mobo, CPU, and Heatsink all from OCN. I swear this build would not have happened without you. You rock! Anyway, here goes nothing!

P.S. Seeing as how I'm taking a trip on Monday, and won't be back for 2 weeks, I probably won't be able to start the build until I get back, depending on when the cpu comes in. Don't want to rush it though. So... I'll re-bump every time I have some progress!

I also wanted to mention that there might be something wrong with a pin on the mobo socket. I really hope it is ok, and the previous owner said it worked last time he used it, but he also said that he didn't notice any broken pin, so it might be something damaged during shipping. We will have to see, I will be testing sometime this week (July 12-16).

OH man, it has been a while. I sort of let this thread die, but I'm gonna fire it up again just to show the finished build. It's working perfectly and I'm so happy with it. Here are some pics:

A couple more on their way soon.

Bumpity bump. Added pictures of all the parts I'm upgrading to. I'm back from vacation and should be finished up soon. Magnetik, my gpu heatsink is in my sigrig, but It's an Arctic Cooling Accelero.
More to come, stay tuned!
Edit: Also just wanted to mention the misfortunite fact that there might be something wrong with the motherboard. I really hope there isn't, but a pin might be damaged beyond repair. We will have to see tomorrow or the day after or the day after that when I test it.

You might try putting my old 17" monitor between the Samsungs. If you set the 17" just behind them, so that their bevels overlap, it should be just the right size, and the vertical resolution is only off by 26 pixels.

I used to use DisplayFusion, which let me have a single wallpaper, like you have, and also gave me a bunch of extra hotkeys for manipulating where windows were.
