4 pin power connector near the PCI's?? Pretty sure there isn't one.

1.)53C Load Temps? cheers.gif^^

2.)For example on my board there are two SATA power connectors that supply the PCI-e Slots with additional power from the different rails of the power supply.
That should keep an overclock more stable.

Look here on other boards it is mostly a 4pin connector somewhere around the Slots...mostly left above the PCI slots:

Here it is clearly visible:X58A-UD7-Board.jpg

@Moayad: State the settings of your overclock so we can elaborate this problem further:)

I just changed the core speed from 782 to 850 and everything else is at stock

After using Heaven DX11 Benchmark 2.5 for 5 minutes or less it gave me this message:
D3D11appwindow::swap_window(): device removed
Then the system crushed!

Before this i tried these settings:
Voltage: 1.1
Core speed: 900
Memory: 2175

crushed also!

my temps at max was 70

SPDIF out, it's used for taking the sound from the onboard audio chip to older graphics cards that don't have a built in audio decoder. The additional power you meant, which that board you pictured doesn't have, is most often in the form of a 4 pin molex connection like on my board or occasionally a sata power connection like on your board, google those terms if anybody needs pictures of what those connections look like. The additional power is actually used primarily for when you are using multiple GPUs, because then the 75w that each can pull up to through the PCIe slot isn't all provided by just the 24 pin mobo connector. That way the additional moles or sata power connections can supply most of the power so the PCIe slots are not trying to pull 300w through just the 24 pin on the mobo if you had 4 GPUs all pulling 75w through each PCIe slot.

Yes jagz your board doesn't have additional power for the PCIe slots, but no worries because you can only fit two GPUs on that board anyway. You usually only see additional PCIe power on new high end boards that support 3 GPUs or new boards that support 4 GPUs.

Thank you for the close eye, I noticed yesterday too that I didn´t look close engough and it was the auxilary one and not a 4 PIN for PCIE connector, meant to edit that.

But it looks like that at least and if it is the power connector it won´t say "out" doh.gif ^^

All Gigabyte X58 UD series and > have it.
REIII has it.
Some newer ASUS boards.
etc....

I edited the post and put the UD7 there which has the connector.

I noticed in your sig that you have 580 DCII SLI ...are you overclocking with both cards in there?
Cause if that is the case the above mentioned 4pin is more interesting to you.

Alright, here's the current state of my 580 DCII:

Settings:

Untitled-5.jpg

This was my 5th consecutive bench, just to get a good idea of peak temps and stability:

Untitled-1.jpg

My average run at stock clocks is 61.4 fps, so it's a ~12.2% overclock. Meh.

I think I'm going to stop using Heaven2.5 for benchmarking. The voltages required to stop the artifacts just don't make sense, I can get the same clocks fully stable at 1.08v in Witcher2/Crysis/Crysis2 but in Heaven it needs atleast 1.113 to stop the random sparks/flashes (or worse, crashes). Lame.
I might look into testing with Furmark, though I don't like bloatware and the free version is damn limited in it's benching choices. Also, doesn't running Furmark result in the power-draw-limiter kicking in or something?

I've touched 950/2200 stable in Crysis 2 but it requires 1.150v (i.e. the highest it goes) in order to stay stable, is this sounding right to you guys? Did I get a slightly under-par chip or what?

Also, what is the relation between memory clock and core clock? I read somewhere that since GDDR5 is already so damn blazing fast, memory clocks don't matter as much as core. Is there some perfect proportion for both to achieve maximum stability?

Oh, and my temperatures have never been a problem FYI. They have always stayed below 80c, 85c tops so the only thing that can be causing instability/artifacts in my overclocks is some bad mismatch of voltage/core/memory. I wish GPU's were as easy to OC as CPU's -_- I'd love to know how on earth you guys are touching 1ghz stable without exploding your chip.

edit: It appears others in this thread have also had issues with Heaven2.5.

Currently stable at 950/1900/2100 @ 1.093V...this is my 24/7 OC. I haven't tried overclocking the memory yet though. I've gone to 1000/2000/2100 at 1.18V but I didn't like to keep the voltage that high. Temps with my 24/7 OC are low 30s idle and never top 70 load...fan doesn't go above 65% usually.

Don't have any screenshots as i'm out of the country and away from my rig.
