Dual Cards

There is an old saying in Austria I will try to translate
"How does the baker get rid of the old bread at the end of the week?"

Both Nvidia and AMD need to find better marketing strategies of disposing their residual stock of unrequested cards

So still waiting for my source on whether he can find me one with 3Gb VRAM. I am determined to get the most out of it >_> In the mean time, hi guys!

Quick question, if I plan to OC later, would you suggest I go for the pre-OC versions and push it further myself? Or just buy a non super-clocked one and start from scratch? I suspect most people will suggest the latter >_>

Oh and Kung Pow, no OCN isn't banned in China. Besides, Hong Kong and China have completely different rules regarding censorship, they have a semi-independent government in Hong Kong, so nothing is censored here. Can't access megaupload though (and by extent their porn cousin >_>), but that's more megaupload's fault than Hong Kong.

In your thread I noticed you asking about what VRAM is hence makes me believe you still need some information on that

3GB won´t make a difference for every day playing and will actually limit yoru Memory OC quite a bit (even though it isn´t really relevant).

3GB GTX 580 is in my oppinion only relevant to people with Multiple SLI GTX 580 Setups and surround.
For playing at extreme resolutions and all graphic enhancing settings such as AA, AF etc it is reasonable to consider the purchase of a 3GB card.

However for a single GTX 580 it won´t really make a difference and much sense to have 3GB, except if you are planning to expand of course or if you say you really need it for specific programs such as CS5 etc other than that I don´t think you will benefit from a 3GB card.

What you probably mean by pre-oc versions are the factory overclocked non reference products.
I personally have one (The GTX 580 Lightning) and I can tell you that if you are looking for a product that will OC like hell, still be cool on air cooling and have great features I can confidently recommend it

Of course there is an extreme variety of GTX 580 non reference products, and if you are sure you will not watercool I would like you to take a look in a thread of mine.
There you have the best ones sorted out, explained precisely through their advantages and disadvanteges and their overall customer experiences.

I do actually use CS5 and other photographic softwares, though of course I am not sure if I can utilise the whole 3 Gb VRAM. The reason I consider 3Gb is that, like someone said in my other topic, there may be games in the near future that can use more than 1.5, and some games are pushing close to 1.5 even now...

Also I was mainly concerned about whether I should buy factory superclocked cards >_> I may also upgrade my monitor to accomodate high resolutions in the future >_>

That is a mistake most beginners make.
Do not get yourself the latest and highest end gpu on the market and then punish it with a 19" max 1024x1280 Monitor^^.

It seems to me that budget does play a role here.
And considering that you also want to upgrade your monitor maybe you wanna go a little bit lower on the GPU and therefor get a great monitor.

Games in the future will of course be able to use 3GB but as we know the GPU and gaming industry "in the future" is a term too often used

If you still insist on needing a + 1GB card though and still would like to upgrade to a proper monitor, you could get 560 TI 2GB SLI cheaper than a 580 and still have more performance.

Factory overclocked just means the vendor/manufacturer overclocks the card a little, which is basically irrelevant because everybody does so themselves anyway which is why it is only a marketing fluke in order to fool people that don´t know that fact^^.

You said yourself that you will be overclocking your card anyway so don´t worry about that.
But most factory overclocked cards are also non ref cards...to which I posted a link for you in my previous post.
Check it out and post back what you have gathered

This.

The only reason the 580 is 3GB or 1.5GB is because of the bus width. That's also why the 470 / 570 is either 1.25GB or 2.5GB.....the bus width.

Try dividing 384bit into 1.5GB. It'll go in just fine. Now try 256bit into 3GB. It won't work (the 560Ti is 256bit bus width).

Actually budget is not a very big issue >_> Not that I can go all out and buy like 3 580 and SLI them or something.

But then of course it mainly depends on the availability of 3Gb VRAM 580GTX in Hong Kong. I am using a 1920x1200 resolution, and as far as my research goes, some current games seem to be pushing the 1.5Gb VRAM limit at 1920x1200, so ... >_> Of course I dunno how much truth there is
