Can any of you other Lightning owners comment on whether the dip swiches on your card have plastic covers on them to prevent usage?

I also have the plastic covers, but you can use a small screwdriver or penknife to move them without taking the plastic off
You have no need to use them under air cooling anyway

You can use gpu-z to save the current bios, & edit 1.213V max into it with nibitor then flash it back to raise the voltage limit.
I got impatient waiting for the lightnings & got a deal on a DCuII last night, got to try making it cold tonight & see if it does better than my reference 580s.
Smasher, did your dcII come with no heatsinks whatsoever on the memory ICs? Mine has none, just seems weird...

Thanks for the reply topdog. Are you sure about the 'on air' part of your comment though? If the maximum temperature I'm reaching on air is 77 degrees, would using the vcore switch really ruin my card? Maybe one of you can help me with this but doesn't the vcore dip switch increase voltage by 0.1V? If I were to turn the afterburner voltage to +0 the overall voltage on the card would be increased by +100mV, right? I'm asking because if thats the case then I can safely flip the vcore switch and then slowly start to go above the +200mV software limit to increase core freq. As long as i'm not temperature limited (and I'm not at +200mV) then I should be ok right? Thanks for any help guys.

On my 480 lightning the vcore switch did add 100mV (.1V), not sure if the 580 is the same but probably is. Using the switch as you described should be safe though, but technically will void the warranty (if you do, be careful to leave the plastic cover pristine for warranty)
While 77° is well within the safe zone, it is still pretty warm for high overclocks & it will be temp. limited, adding more voltage than what afterburner will allow likely won't scale well anyway (you will know it's temp limit when more V makes it crash faster). I usually shoot for under 50° loaded when benching air/water to get some more out of a card, the cooler the better.

That's hardly a HOF run. That was with Physx on. I'm now trying to get it to stabilize with the same settings as before long enough to run the benchmark - which it won't. Now trying the latest WHQL to see if it gives me any benefit. Failing that, I will try to save BIOS, edit, reflash and hope I don't brick the card. failing that, I'm considering having it voltmodded by Pizzaman if he's willing to see what it can do. This is a folding system really and I don't game at all so as long as it's folding stable, it's good. More updates throughout the night.

Update 1: After a "PCI Block Corrupted" and then a Write Protect error, with a little help frm our Nvidia editor, Open1your1eyes0, we got the BIOS flashed to the 1213 voltage cap. Then the Nvidia driver blew up and caused the system to hang. Just got that ironed out and am now attempting to run vantage again.

So i have 2 watercooled 580's in sli. core

clock: 956
shader clock: 1912
Mem clock: 2398
Voltage: 1.15V
Temp Idle: 31/38
Temp loaded: 56/58

So...am I in? i think that would put me in 4th...

You have been added to the Hall of Fame.
You still need to post Load and Idle temps for the completion of your entry.

Congratulations you are currently 4th place!
