I bought a GTX 580 SC used and it's doing really well. It hits 925/1850/2100MHz stock voltage (have mostly played around with the core, not so much the memory but I know the memory artifacts at 2200). 100% bench stable and plays BF3 like a boss, but my load temps get to 87-88'C (auto fan profile, goes up to 73-74%).

According to EVGA OC Scanner the voltage for the 3D clocks is 1.0880v. So 1.0880v for 925/1850/2100MHz -- from my reading this seems to be fantastic.

With the auto fan profile it also hits 87-88'C at 850/1700/2100MHz so I have a hypothesis that this might just be the physics of my FT03 at play.

I have NO problems with the performance at these clocks (it really is beastly) but is it really possible to perform better if say I drop those temps below 80'C somehow? Given the performance at this level and the heat I really have no interest in playing with the voltages.

Would reapplying the TIM be worth pursuing?
Can you get some better airflow going? My 580 on air with similar clocks was like 10-15c cooler. I think it topped out at 73c. I was giving it 1.125v.

Friendscatdied your fan settings aren't aggressive enough IMO.

40C - 51%
50C - 62%
60C - 73%
70C - 84%
80C - 95%
90C - 100%

That's my winter settings I just set. In summer I set it 5% higher on all those specs. By the time your about 70C you want to be aggressive if nothing else is higher.

On Crysis, Crysis2, Battlfield 3, I'm never past 74C and I have the same exact card as you and stock 1.0880v. My 24/7 OC is @875 core 13% over vanilla reference clocks.

I need to balance noise though. For me 70% fan speed is actually quite loud. Anything at 65% fan speed or below is quite tolerable. Which is why the current situation with 88'C and 72-73% fan speed is less than ideal.

I've gotten the airflow situation as good as I can get it given the case. I have a Nexus Basic 120mm in the GPU bracket below the card as an intake, and a Nexus Basic 80mm exhaust fan near the output bracket of the card blowing hot air out of the case. My options seem to be quite limited since noise is a concern.

I have played around with E-LEET and it seems this card will do 900/1800/2100MHz with a GPU voltage of 1.050v. 920 on the core and anything higher on the memory causes artifacts and/or crashing in Heaven. Temps have dropped to 84-85'C and fan speed to a very quiet 63-65%. I will have to play plenty of BF3 to confirm this is stable but if it is I think I will be happy with it.

So close yet so far. I got to 990/1980/2000 at 1.150v stable in 3DMark 11. Temps never got over 66 degrees, but the top of the card was HOT..... hot enough to make me not want to do many more tests at that voltage even though the GPU core temp was only 66. I'd really like to hit 1ghz just to know that I did it but I think I'm stuck at 990 on this card unless anyone has any input. I'm not willing to go higher than 1.150v or modify the card bios. I am running the 275 drivers as they get me higher than the new 285 drivers. I tried 995mhz with no luck, and even tried lowering the memory speed below stock just to see if that would help but it didn't.

im able to go up to 1.213V with no issues, but my temps never go above 58C.

1.15 on air was my comfortable area, as long as i kepted temps under 80C
post #2267 of 3582
well right now im at 1.137v and my temps arent over 68c lol.

I'm assuming im safe to go higher.

yeah for sure, as long as its not for 24/7 use. My sig was my best bench so far, i usually game at 1.100V 900/2100, the extra 100mhz doesnt make a big enough difference in fps to justify the extra voltage and temps

Is the top of your card really hot? Just curious... the top of my card seems crazy hot considering my GPU core temps are only mid 60's.

top of the card as in PCB? and it's somewhat hot. Right now its cooling down from furmark and its at about 49c.. but the top is somewhat warm. I'll let you know when im running 3dmark if its hot or not.
