[Official] GTX 580 Overclocking Club - Page 240

I assume I can't get in the club until I grow the balls to actually overclock my gtx 580 tongue.gif I've played with it a bit but haven't had good results. What's this about afterburner not working properly? Is that only for evga models?

Looks pretty much like my BF3 setup. Difference is that I run it at 2400MHz on memory and I use a generik EK GPU Waterblock to keep GPU temp down. I run my card with voltage at 1.123v, which is totally safe and inside default Nvidia limits (1.15v). At 1920x1200, disable vsync and run with GFX settings on Ultra makes my GPU max out at around ~50C. I guess your chip will be pretty hot if you disable vsync :-)

Nope, I dont run vsync. I have a 600t case with 4x 120mm fans on the side panel at medium speed. Add in a custom fan profile and you have temps that never exceed 70*....You can only gain so much from overclocking memory. I could've easily went past 2300MHz, but that was the point where I saw no increase in fps.
I only run ultra, hence the reason for the overclock. Are you sure you're not having any slowdowns with 1.5gb card of yours? My memory usage goes up to almost 1700mb sometimes on Caspian Border running ultra.

Incredible.

I do see a few slowdowns, where my FPS goes as low as 55, but only for split-seconds and mainly on very big fields. I am not sure if its because of loading scene or what - I am on SSD, no swapfile and fast memory that will cache things effective so I guess its a minor issue. Since it is very rare I am not going to do anything about it.

On my system on the other hand, my memory and GPU scales all the way. When I bench in 3dmark11 I have been going to 1056Mhz on the GPU and 2528MHz on the memory. Thats the limit of stability at 1.23v/1.74v where I am bailing out. Only my GPU is on water, the rest including VRM, Memory are on pretty bad air cooling. I have an old chassis without sidepanel fans.

link

The most important thing about all this, is that a single GPU card can manage this game if clocked up. SLI and CX should be causing a lot of issues.

BF3 does not need even 1.5GB of VRAM (at least at anything less than 2560 resolutions). The developers debunked this myth/misconception a while ago. The engine automatically allocates an arbitrarily large chunk of video memory that is not necessarily used entirely. The VRAM usage indicated by software monitors indicate the VRAM allocated, but not necessarily utilized.

My single GTX 580 runs averages in excess of 60 with the clocks below. Very pleased with the performance. Since I didn't see the merits of 4xAA I disabled it and went with Medium FXAA which looks better, so now even my mins are well above 50.

Wow! Now that's impressive. Yeah I agree, one 580 can definately max this game at smooth playable settings.

I'm not saying it actually needs that much, but the memory leak issues were causing problems with my 570 sli rig....I would average 85+ fully max with 2x 570 classified cards, but every so often I would drop to around 25 fps and shoot back up to my average. I tried out some 2.5gb 570's and the fps drops stopped instantly. Take it for what its worth, I'm just stating my experience....

Does anyone use EVGA Precision? I've had luck with it in the past and I'm currently at 880MHz on my EVGA GTX 580 Superclocked using it. I will continue to push it, however, if I get to the point where I need to up the voltage, can I do that in Precision? Thanks!
