I experienced the same thing.

 

 

Highest clock: P7488 (8.17.12.8026 drivers, WHQL and FM approved, 7272 graphics score 962 core / 1924 shader / 2153 memory @ 1.150 V)

This OC was stable in Heaven and 3DMark11 in the older driver, but failed to complete either benchmark in the newer drivers. Also, both the graphics score and the overall score were worse than lower clocks with newer drivers.

 

Best overall score: P7587 (8.17.12.8562 drivers, WHQL but not FM approved, 7389 graphics score 950 core / 1900 shader / 2153 memory @ 1.150V)

This OC was stable in every game I played as well as Heaven and 3DMark11 but I noticed an artifact with the naked eye once in Heaven and another while playing BF3, so I dropped down a notch. Every attempt to clock higher than this had stability issues with the new drivers.

 

Gaming Stable P7525 (8.17.12.8562 drivers, WHQL but not FM approved, 7328 graphics score 931.5 core / 1863 shader / 2126 memory @ 1.125V)

This seemed to be the sweet spot for OC as I saw no artifacts anywhere and the score was very close to my personal best while temperatures were noticeably lower. I had zero artifacts and was also F@H core_15 stable, or so I thought. I could tear through all of the normal Fermia core_15 WUs but on -advmethods I had one 7621 and one 7622 project WUs out of 20 total WUs attempted that failed with Error 52 NANs. 10% crashes is not truly stable for me, so I backed down even farther. Note that these two WUs are probably the heaviest shader load you can put on a Fermi, since Furmark is automatically throttled by the drivers. I also noticed that nothing generates more heat than these WUs. Raising the voltage at this clock did not help the -advmethods stability. Temperatures were as high as 81C when running the 7622 WU in a 28C ambient environment. (Standard WUs ran at 70C or less.)

 

24/7 folding/gaming stable

I'm now at 900 / 1800 / 2106 @ 1.113 V and this has proven to be 24/7 folding stable on normal and -advmethods. I haven't had a single NAN and I'm still getting 19,918 PPD minimum and 20,007 PPD maximum on the 7622 WUs. (It runs the normal WUs at around 18,800 PPD.) This voltage produces significantly less heat than the above clocks and I'm at 71C maximum (on a reference cooled card) even while running this nasty WU in as high as a 30C ambient temperature environment. Standard WUs run right around 69C but on a much quieter fan speed setting. Note that this is identical to the evga Classified settings, save that they get away with a 1.100V due to superior voltage regulation. (I tried their 1.000V setting but got a NAN while folding a 7622.)

 

After the fold-a-thon is over, I'll do a few 3DMark11 runs and find a representative average for the clock.

 

 

P.S. For every NAN that I got, I was reassigned that exact same project, run, clone, and gen, and finished it on the next attempt using a reference clock, still easily beating the preferred deadline. I didn't hurt the science!

 

EDIT: I snuck in two runs and got a P7265 with graphics score 7033 followed by a P7260 with my current 900/1800/2106 @1.113V clock.

 

Unfortunately, this is where the card truly 24/7 stable, 100% error free, and with low temperatures. I'd have liked to have broken the P7309 mark but I'm not sure if it's possible at this clock. Still, I'm performing as well as a Classified on my Superclocked, so I can't complain.

I will use the Highest overclock for GPU intensive games and the Midrange overclock for less demanding games such as consol ports.

The rest of the time the GPU will be running at defalt settings.

The difference between 900mhz core and 950mhz core is about 8fps - 10fps cant quite believe it. In DIRT3 and F1 2011 Benchmarks im getting minimum fps 79, average 89

Can you just answer me one more question? Im running games at x8 MSAA, do i need to go any higher? There is a QSAA x16 or something like that but it currupts quite a few games (for example DIRT3 just shows a green screen when this is selected) Which is better?

Great job learning your over clocks bud. thumb.gif The gaming highest over clock is great. Your ASUS DCUII temps are awesome! ASUS has great air cooling GPU's. I personally love the ASUS Sabertooth mobo's.

As for gaming at 8xMSAA that's more than plenty IMO. MSAA does great on Nvidia cards and chokes AMD. Nvidia excels at the extra eye candy. Some will say it's not needed but I don't know any hardcore gamers that don't want it to look it's best their card can push.

My suggestion is run graphic settings as high as you can without encountering any troubles or slowing down your min/max FPS and call it a day. Each game will vary depending on different things specific to the game itself. Some games do better than others with eye candy turned up.

In BF3 I keep it at 4xMSAA Ultra settings. Just downloaded COD:Black Ops for $30 on sale from Steam and can't wait to try that tommorow night. See what kind of graphics I can get out of that.

Just curious can you run through a 3DMark 11 bench with those highest clocks? (I'm sorry if you mentioned it already in previous post).

MXthunder is stable gaming but seems to be stuck getting thorugh a 3DMark 11 run. I got mine to run through 3DMark 11 with my i7 950 @ 3.80Ghz OC and my EVGA clocks at 950/1900/2075 with 1.1250mV bump. My graphic score 7387. My CPU is doing great but held my combined score at 7214.

MXthunder I think you should bump your voltage to 1.1250mV for that to pass that synthetic bench. It's most likely the only thing keeping your from completeing a run.

I keep a steady 15% OC on my card 890Mhz Core / 1780Mhz Shader with 5% 2175Mhz Memory clocks 24/7. Set it and forget it stable is my preference.

I'm also excited if the news articles about the GTX 580 going on sale for $380 with 7970 release launch date. I can't wait to SLI my card. biggrin.gif Best bang for price / performance option upgrade for us single GTX 580 owners. Will destroy games until 2013 easy. wink.gif

I currently have my EVGA GTX580 DS running at 950MHz / 1900MHz Shader and 2025 Memory @ 1.15V. I would like to increase the Core a bit more but my driver keeps crashing so I guess I need to raise the voltage right? Anyone knows the highest voltage I'm safe to go?

Also on Afterburner the max voltage is 1.15V....anyway I can increase that?

Not a tick over 1.1250mV personally. Any higher with your EVGA and your riding it too hard for comfort.

MSI Lightnings with extra PWM's can handle just a touch more.

The odd thing is, any voltage greater than 1.10 all the way up to 1.213 still crashes. And its only the combined test, every time. I can run any other
test up to 950mhz no problem. I am absolutely flabbergasted as to why it wont pass.

Not a tick over 1.1250mV personally. Any higher with your EVGA and your riding it too hard for comfort.

I have to disagree, evga is pretty conservative with their max voltage and you should be fine running it the max the card allows. This is just my opinion on the matter so don't want anyone ruining their card on my word.

@modstorm That said I would definitely no go any higher then 1.15v on air. But if you want to you need to extract the bios, edit it to allow more voltage and reflash it. Voiding your warranty.

Thanks smile.gif I think I will leave the card as it is as so far I have been running it at this config for about a week and had no problems and it completes a 3D Mark test. The max that I managed to go was 970 Core however it only passed 3D mark the first time :/

Lowered Voltage to 1.125V and its still passing 3D Mark with 950MHz Core / 1900 MHz Shader / 2025 MHz Memory biggrin.gif
