My GPU doesn't have a rheostat or potentiometer on it; The voltage adjustments that I'm making are via software.

I set my core Voltage in the Nvidia Inspector program and I'm reading that voltage in either Nvidia Inspector or GPU-Z. (In my case, I could evga precision as well, as both do the same thing. MSI Afterburner is another popular third party program to adjust voltages.) I haven't actually gone in with a multi-meter and measured anything, nor have I ever made any hardware changes on my card.

Ah OK, nvidia inspector is good for the tensions but msi afterburner is not very reliable for the voltage, it's better to use(get) GPU-Z

I am not sure what you mean when you say "tensions" in relation to a video card. Tension is the force acting on a rope when you pull on each end of the rope; there shouldn't be tension in your video card. I'm not sure what the word you're meaning to say is, but it's not tension. :)

I set my clock frequencies and my core voltages with Nvidia Inspector. I read my GPU voltage using GPU-Z or Open Hardware Monitor. (Both read identical values.) I set my fan speeds via evga Precision and I monitor my fan speeds with Open HW Monitor.

If you're like me and like having as few processes/programs running as possible, especially seeing as we're folders, then MSI AB does a great job at all the things you listed. Just FYI.

Excuse i , I am French, me intenet serves me as a translator to translate

I wants to say tension as voltage volt you understood(included) well, we agree

The result(profit) that I obtien when I sets with the multimeter is almost equal has that of gpu-z but superior(higher education) has that of afterburner

Voltage is the correct word you meant to use.

In my experience, the voltage displayed by afterburner is very close to what is displayed when I use a multimeter.

Im having a bit of trouble with Fermi Bios Editor, I saved m bios using GPU-Z, but when I try to open it with FBE it doesnt seem to work, just get "Unsupported Device" in the box where it should read 580

Any help is appreciated.. Just want to enable higher voltage...

You're trying to enable more voltage than the +200mV over stock that MSI AB gives you for your Lightning? How are you planning on cooling this much voltage?

+200mV = about 1.20v, I am not going to try anything crazy.

Just want to tr and get a little more out my benching...  I run 925/1850/2200 @ +50mV = 1.03 - 1.05v for gaming and 24/7 uses, and I can bench at 950/1900 @ +150mV = 1.15v, temps about 80c benching.

I cant get through a 3DMark run above those clocks tho, even if I max to +200 which is 1.20v in MSI AB monitoring...  So I'd like to try 1.23 - 1.25 if possible...

GPUZ bioses are said by some to not be good enough, but I think you would have to change the extension to read it with fermi editor. According to the USB flash tool for NVIDIA GPU's +Fermi BIOS guide it is better to use NVFlash to make a copy of your bios and edit that. There are pdf instructions in the downloaded .rar file.

There may be newer versions of some files in this kit available on the net.

I tried writing instructions for it. This is for a GTX460 so adjust volts, clocks, or fan speeds to suit yr card. Being MSI with multiple voltages it may look a bit different to the example images in the pdf files.
Quote:
Open folder "USB flash tool for NVIDIA GPU's +Fermi BIOS guide"

Open folder "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool" See SP27213.exe

Instal to your PC. It will instal itself in a folder called "USBDriveFormatTool". Open it.

Have a flash drive plugged in ready to use. Click on HPUSBFW.EXE

Choose "Create a DOS startup disk" using files from ... Browse to "USB flash tool for NVIDIA GPU's +Fermi BIOS guide"

Select "USB image w7" and Start. This takes ages.

Copy "USB flash tool for NVIDIA GPU's +Fermi BIOS guide/nvflash" folder contents to the usb

Restart and in motherboard bios make the usb drive the first in your boot order list.

It will say Windows Millenium and below that c: prompt

Type c:nvflash -b backup.rom

Restart, set bios to boot to hdd.

Boot.

Place a copy of the changed bios in the "USB flash tool for NVIDIA GPU's +Fermi BIOS guide/NiBiTor.v6.02" folder.

Open in NiBiTor.(File - Open Bios)

Open Tools/Fermi Clocks and when complete there,
Open Tools/ Fermi Voltages

They are the ones to look at.

What u do in there: Tools/Fermi Clocks - Change 15 - 5 to 2000

Tools/Fermi Voltages - Change voltage up top to 1.2125 - Change Setting 2 - 1 to your upper voltage (eg 1.1875) and 2 - 0 to a lower voltage (eg 1.1625)

Apply your new settings and Save. Place copy of changed bios in your flash drive/boot disk containing nvflash

Restart. Enter bios. Set to start on USB.

Just type nvflash (biosname).rom and if there is protection that stops you then try again with nvflash -4 -5 -6 (biosname).rom

Nvflash will recognise the bioses one at a time and ask for a y for yes prompt to continue.

When all bios are flashed, restart, enter bios, reset boot order to HDD first, save and reboot.

You should now have a higher voltage limit.
