I've hit a wall with my 580's. At +200mV I'm not stable in Heaven 2.5 at 940MHz. I was messing around with AB and noticed I have an "Aux Voltage" setting. What does this do and will increasing it possibly help my OC become stable? Also, are there any risks involved with increasing this Aux Voltage? Thanks guys!

What's the actual voltage at +200?? cause I'm at 985MHz at 1.15 Volts and stable.

I'm not sure if the Vaux is pll voltage or extra memory/pci-e voltage (read this but wasn't confirmed). As long as the card is running cool shouldn't hurt to try it.

Updated entry :

My results on my EVGA GTX 580 SC.

My default voltage is 1.0880v.

Here are some of my 580 SC clocks to help you. All voltage on these were using my default 1.0880v.

The GTX 580 SC is 3% gain higher than a GTX 580 'vanilla' at stock speeds.

All my scores shown are from GPU-Z readings, using GPU validation to show me my percentage gains.

38-39C idle @ stock 797Mhz core on SC which is a 3% gain over vanilla stock. 797 Core /1013 Memory /1594 Shader

39-41C idle @ 838Mhz core on SC which is 8% gain over vanilla stock. 838/1061/1676

39-41C idle @ 855Mhz core on SC which is 10% gain over vanilla stock. 855/1086/1710

39-41C idle @ 875Mhz core on SC which is 13% gain over vanilla stock. 875/1111/1750

40-42C idle @ 890Mhz core on SC which is 15% gain over vanilla stock. 890/1135/1780

To go higher stable I have to bump my GPU to 1.1000 voltage.

41-43C idle @912Mhz core on SC which is 17% gain over vanilla stock. 912/1110/1825

43C-44C idle @ 923Mhz core on SC which is 19% gain over vanilla stock.923/1136/1846

Now when I OC I bump up across the board for Core / Memory / Shader to be exactly the same percentage gain on each GPU-Z validation.

I clocked on 3D Mark 11 'performance' score of 7167. On an i7 950 @ 3.86Ghz OC - GPU 1.1000 voltage @ 923/1136/1846.

I stopped here by choice as I'm on air.

I currently run however 24/7 OC 875/1110/1751 at lowered 1.0500v for 13% gain over 'vanilla' clocks at this voltage I run 38C-41C idle and gaming my highest temp reached full throttle 77C-79C.

Hope this helps you guys gauge the difference from reference to non-reference. I lowered temps by a slight fan adjustment. smile.gif

I put an Arctic Accelero Xtreme Plus II on my 580 Lightning. I'm not much of an OC'er but I put the core up to 965 and memory @ 1375 and it seems to be stable. The temps are great doesn't exceed 65degrees. Personally for air I think that's pretty good as the cooler is also totally inaudible on 100% fans.

I maxed out voltage with AB then added 20mV aux voltage and still crashed at a total of 1.218V. That's as high as I'm willing to go so it looks like 940mhz is definitely my ceiling in 3dmark11... frown.gif

What kind of *actual* performance increases are you guys seeing with your overclocks (preferably reporting from triple monitor or high res + AA setups)?

I'm running three on an HX 1000 PSU, and it seems to be working fine at 850mhz stock voltage. I know that I won't be able to do more than that without a 1200w, but I don't want to waste money on 5% performance increase.

From the few charts I saw out there, it seemed like performance advantage of overclocking diminished the higher the resolution (only saw up to 1200p), which I found odd.

Maybe you missed it but I have advised most of you a couple of times to use 267. drivers for Vantage and 275. drivers only for 3DMark.

Each driver set works best with the above mentioned benches and will inhibit performance if used the other way around thumb.gif
