RAM was actually on stock.
912Mhz at 1150mV crashed after 15 minutes with the standard 1 color screen and sound flippin' it.

I went back to my highest stable point so far, 900mhz exactly at 1150mV and ripped the VRAM to 2150Mhz, 4300Mhz effectively that is, and it remains stable.

Neither does 900Mhz work on anything less then 1.182v.
I'm trying to see if 882Mhz, a 100Mhz OC over the stock DCII clocks, actually runs on anything under 1150mV.
This guys stock VGPU is 1075mV.

I'm using GPU Tweak and now MSI Afterburner cause of the better fan control.

Temps due to adjusted fan profile do not exceed 65c in BF3 even on 1.213v.

It's loud, but for temp testing i'd rather keep it cool.

But guys, *** am I doing wrong or is this simply the worst GTX580 ASUS have ever sold.

Or is it the BETA drivers i've been running. (Had dual HD6950's before but I definetly used Driver Sweeper properly wink.gif)

I wouldn't say its all that bad. But not great. Sounds like someone flashed the bios. Thats a lot of voltage your giving it. My DCII had the same limit as my reference 580. 1.15v.

+1 it's got a modded BIOS for sure as it peaks at 1.15v stock and of course has 772/2004 clocks.

Now that in itself shouldn't be causing the problem as long as the BIOS itself is still the normal one and it's just been edited .. unsure how it would behave if someone threw MSI vBIOS there.

Stock clocks for the DCII are 782-2004Mhz but k.
About the GPU Voltage your absolutely right. This has to be a modded BIOS. I was very suprized to see the limit of 1.213v in GPU Tweak / MSI AB. According to GPU-Z the BIOS is still a ASUS one, but I have no idea if it's something like a modded original one or something totally different.

Temperature-wise it can easily handle the 1.213v but I don't know if it's safe to run 24/7 due to the VRMs.

On 1.213v under BF3 it did about 65c with 65-70% fanspeed and in Unigine Heaven it peaked at 71c with 72% fanspeed.

Those fanspeeds are insanely high compared to the stock DCII speeds but it works fine to cool it wink.gif

I have to admit, The voltage doesn't scale at all so I probably won't run it if I can't "fix" the crappy OC.

900Mhz 'stable' on 1.15v in BF3 / 3dmark11 / heaven.
Couldn't get 932Mhz to run any longer then 20-25 minutes in BF3 even with the full 1.213v applied.

Could indeed be something like BIOS or power supply.
Doubt it's the card cause not running 932Mhz even on 1.213v is like, extremely bad / low imo compared to the results I read online. Especially for a DCII.

Oh and, before ya guys start about my PSU, it's plenty and it's running fine. It's the trusty XFX 650w XXX Edition.
Might be a different design to the Pro version, but it's still a high-end seasonic unit which runs even my dual HD6950's perfectly for hours on end. Even with heavy benching.

Well first let me comment on saying that the 900 MHz on the 580 is a good 24/7 OC stable.

Secondly, you must have a poor over clocker because I ran that 900 MHz OC with stock 1.0880v for 8 months easy and before that 875 Mhz for 5 months approximately. It's going into a second rig and will stay at 900 Mhz stock voltage.

I'm a bit surprised though that you didn't get 950 Mhz on the higher benching over clock with that much voltage. I was able to obtain and many others if you look at this club thread home page that mark with 1.1100v. I'm surprised your MSI TFII isn't pulling those over clocks running cooler than the vanilla flavor I have.

Back to the main point - your 900 Mhz stable 24/7 is a good OC for that card. Set it and forget it and get to gaming. Enjoy. biggrin.gif

I get yer point, but my 2500k is also a sad little thing that does 4.5 at 1.38v and can't even run 4.8Ghz on whatever vcore i toss against it. Did do 4.7Ghz on 1.46v but maaan thats high.

You see, I'm a real diehard air overclocker and i always want more and i always tweak and fiddle for that extra 20Mhz. I am just kinda disappointed in this card. Which as I said is a ASUS DCII, not a MSI TFII. Mate of mine has a lightning that does 900Mhz on 1.064v and 950Mhz on 1.112v. Benchstable at 1022Mhz 1.212v unlocked BIOS. Those are the results I wanna see on mine as well hehe.

yeah that does suck, i was able to get both of mine (individually of course) at 1000mhz core bench stable @ 1.213V. SLId i think ive maxed out at 985. 1.1V gets me 895 stable in sli. If its not too late i would go swap the card smile.gif

It's a 3rd hand card. The first owner, I now know who it is, probably used this card in benching with water and I wouldn't be suprized if it even saw something colder.

Card might have been overvolted too high and thus degraded.
Got this card pretty damn cheap though.

It was a swap trade for my 2 Sapphire Dual Fan HD6950's and I got like, €100 added to it so the deal was amazing. No more microstuttering in BF3. Finally.
When the GTX680 drops in price and the MSI TF GTX680 goes into retail I'm getting rid of this thing and get the GTX680.

The initial plan was to keep the GTX580 / HD6950's and go for a 3770k but I don't see my crappy 4.5Ghz 2500k being a bottleneck anytime soon so..
Weakest link has got to go smile.gif

Seeing as it's 3rd hand (4th hand when you sell it), you may as well open it up and see if all the pads are actually there.. like you hinted it's probably been under water or under something stronger. The core temps are fine as you've posted but it may just be falling over because the vram etc isn't staying cool enough due to missing pads.

Or you could just get another 580 and run SLI @ 900 on core. That's plenty fast for next few years and replace them later on.

Something also worth noting, there's no reason to bump up the volts for low clocks. For example my CUII falls over if I put it to 1.2v and try and run something like 930. The card does 1Ghz @ 1.18v though. Though you've likely tried 1.15v with various clocks already so that won't probably help.
