I think I remember some version of drivers causing FF crashes, so I would update drivers so some that you trust more, like I've been using the 290.53 beta for a long time without problems I think the latest WHQL 300 series drivers are supposed to be good to though. Also turn off hardware acceleration in the advanced tab of your FF options while your at it for good measure.

Finally got around to overclocking my Zotac GTX580 after getting it at launched. I also installed an Arctic Cooling Extreme Plus II. The G1 adhesive doesn't really seem to stick too well so I googled some suggestions and I am now running my computer upside down to heat up the glue so that it would stick. Hopefully it'll be a lot stickier tomorrow morning.

Here are my stats after about an hour of Heaven.

Stock:
41C idle 88C full load

Overclocked 900Mhz@1.113V
34C idle 74C full load

The OC temps is with my case upside down. Temps are a little higher than I'd like. Probably going to go for a 890Mhz overclock and lower the voltage.

I'd just like to bump to let people know about a folding competition between OCN and the other top folding forum's teams, called the Chimp Challenge. More information can be found in my sig including information about this competition, general folding questions (Folding essential threads) and a quick and easy setup for folding (FOLDING). If there are any 580s still here that haven't at least thought about folding then now is the time to do so and help represent OCN.

Let me know if you have any questions or need any help regarding your cards or folding. smile.gif

Thank you very much Dream. First before you get started installing the folding client I want to make sure you know a little bit about what you're getting into. Basically it is research being done that calculates how proteins fold and understanding how proteins fold can help us know how they misfold which can help us understand and eventually treat things like cancer and Alzheimer's. So that's what you're going to be doing and while you fold you're CPU and GPU will be at just about 100% load so don't be surprised by the heat that you see. Now many people such as myself fold 24/7 but don't feel obligated to do so if you can't, any amount of time you can contribute is worthwhile and appreciated even if it's just a little bit.

Alright now that I've made sure you have at least a basic idea of what to expect let's start getting you set up to fold. This guide here is a very quick and easy set up guide for the v7 folding client and is what I recommend. During the installation you will be asked for a donor name, team number, and passkey, you can find the information you input for those fields in this post which also has a more basic guide for client installation. That should be pretty much it, when you're done there will be two 'slots' (one for the CPU and one for the GPU) that will say running and your CPU and GPU will be loading at about 100%. Past that just refer to the Chimp Challenge thread, the V7 client installation guide thread, or ask me if you have any questions and be sure to fold as much as you're able to from the 15th-25th of this month.

Thanks for wanting to contribute. biggrin.gif

Love the hc2 block on my 580. I am currently sitting at 900 core with 1.113V temps never go above 43*C in 78*F ambient temps.
