Okay guys, woke up this morning, turned my pc on. Got to windows boot screen, graphics card fan sped up to full speed, screen went black and into power saving. I uninstalled the drivers but that didnt work, reseat the heatsink and that didnt work, so all i had left was to do a complete wipe and re install of windows, no help there either, i can get into windows sometimes but as soon as there is any load on the graphics card the monitor goes in to power saving and the cooling fan speeds up. mad.gif

I have checked the power cables, with and without extensions, tripple checked all the connections, everything i can think of, now im thinking could it be a bad Power supply? it was running 2 x HD6870s fine, im stumped frown.gif the card has 3 years warranty on it luckily, and was purchased in march by the previous owner...

Anyone got any ideas?

If I played few hours continuously in Metro 2033 on max settings, can I say that my OC of the cards is OK? BF3 is OK too, but this game loading graphic cards not so hard.

But I can say that with Tri-SLI GTX 580 @ 950 MHz on max settings (with PhysX) and with resolution only 1920 x 1080 I can see sometimes FPS drop to 60-65 and can feel mouse lag (I have sick_mblur -5 and sick_fov 60). It was on level where we first time left the underground (but was on the station). But most of the time I see about 130 FPS.

I don't have any micro-stuttering and other bugs, so it's a good thing thumb.gif

Its very similar to the gainward cards I use.
Try downloading MSI afterburner and start with clocks of
870 for core and 2090 for memory. You will need to unlock
The voltages in the settings of msi afterburner to get this to run without
Crashing. You will not need to flash the bios unless you want to go higher.
Its stable enough for benchmarks but something like battlefield will need
More work.

Hope this starting point is what you wanted.

Hey guys I'm considering bios modding my 580 this weekend. 925Mhz is the absolute max I can get with the bios @ 1.150v before it driver crashes. I've got it direct die antec 620 cooling which the temps max out at 49C. I've got additional heatsinks glued to the PCB plate and also a small 70mm fan blowing right on the top of the PCB where the VRM's are to cool the PCB. PCB temps used to reach around 70C before I got the 70mm fan, now @ 1.150v its 56C when folding. I don't plan on folding at these voltages but I plan to increase gaming voltage so I can boost my performance above 925Mhz. I figure I gotta get a good 1.175V at least for 950Mhz hopefully, maybe more MHz possibly.

Windows flash or dos?

Windows flash or dos?

DOS flash all the way - i ran into some issues trying to do it the windows way. Ive flashed a few cards now for myself and some friends via DOS and i didnt have an issue with any of them. Heres the guide i followed.

Dears,

I badly need help with my ECS GTX580 card.

I'm getting multiple, different errors over the last 2 months. I thouthg it could be software related but now I think it's hardware related frown.gif

Summary: I'm using Windows or Linux normally and it randomly crashes. I get a grey screen and can't ctrl+alt+del or alt-tab anymore. Not even alt+f4 works, I have to hard reset it.
Sometimes I get a blank screen and the monitor lost its signal (it searchs for input on its digital and analog connectors, finds nothing and the power light blinks, as if it was not connected to a VGA card).
Sometimes resetting the system works, sometimes it does not - I have to plug the monitor cable to the onboard video card, which works perfectly.

Sometimes I enter the motherboard BIOS ('del' key or F2) and just let it there; after a few minutes some artifacts show up and then the grey screen and then the lost signal).

It varies a lot; sometimes I'm able to work and play some vga-demanding games on Windows; sometimes it crashes after ~20sec after Windows logon...

I have updated the motherboard BIOS and drivers. Updated the VGA drivers on Windows. Used MSI afterburder to downloack the card significantly (did not touch its voltage, however, just lowered gpu and memory speeds by 20%), as well as fix the coolers to 50% to guarantee air flux.

System specs:
ASRock Z68 Ext3 Gen3 motherboard (everything set to default)
i2500k CPU @ stock speed of 3.3.ghz (overclocks nicely but returned to stock to try to find out the vga problem)
2 x SSD OCZ Vertex 2 60Gbs in RAID0
1Tb Seagate 7200RPM SATA3 HD
Power Supply Sapphire Pure 1250W Modular
cooler h100 corsair
gskill sniper 8gbs (2x4gbs) 2133mhz 9-11-10-28 (set to default on BIOS)
Case corsair Carbide 400R

I have no overheat problem - CPU and GPU temps around 25ºC.

I'm not 100% sure it is the VGA, but I'm almost there since it works flawlessly with the onboard video.

Any ideas????

Just had one of those nightsmares....
Bought an extra Gainward 580 couple months ago. Never read the bios numbers. Couldn't work out why they'd lag in BF3 if I didn't force the same settings with Afterburner.
Only using two ATM with P8Z68. All three are going on a Rampage Extreme with an 3930K next week....my current P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 would only run 4x for a third card, so didn't put it in. Saved up for something worthy...

Thought they were supposed to just do whatever the lowest clocked card did. Not my Gainwards.

So tonight I thoughtlessly force flashed the newer one to my original bios. Rebooted. No NVIDIA card present. Holy Cow. Don't panic... redface.gif

Finally twigged that one bios was 70.10.17.00.01 and that newer card was 70.10.48.00.01 and that bios of mine just didn't work for it.
Force flashed it back with settings that matched my two originals....783/2010 rather than 805/2010. They used to have different voltages too.

All good now. Now at least they work together without having to use AB. thumb.gif

Does anyone know what the bios version numbers mean? The 48 seems to indicate some sort of hardware revision....
