Im not sure what K-boost is exactly, but I think it only works on cards that have GPUboost - aka the 600 series and newer. Not applicable to the 500 series.

So far working great with default voltage and 840 clock. That's fine for me, I don't run super high end games. Thank you! I think where I was going wrong before was putting voltage to 1.1 and that was slowing down the card.

Yeah he'll probably come close to your SLI considering you do lose some performance to SLI scaling. Nicely done Neo thumb.gif

I have my i7 950 at 4.2ghz, trying to get a nice oc on stock air for my 580. What voltage and clock settings should I use?
Kewl we have same CPU and GPU smile.gif
Quote:
If its a SC card, stock core speed should be 797. Set the clock to 840 and see if its stable. If not, bump the voltage. The voltage goes up in .013V increments. Keep it below 1.100V for stock air cooling. Keep your fan speed high (80+%) while testing the OC's. You should end up somewhere in the 850-890mhz range

That's solid advice. mine was at 860 or so before it went spastik

Had to part way with the Asus GTX580CU after a year of symbiosis.

I was getting randon green-artifact crashes from the scratch on DX11 games but i payed little intention since the DX11 games i was playing was just the BF3.

As the titles became more though, it became an issue and... well with the advent of GTX6xx series, the 580 became obselete.

I was lucky enough to RMA for a full refund of my money and got an ASUS GTX670CU. It runs perfect ! Much less power, much less space taken, much more power. Whats not to like? smile.gif
post #3317 of 3582
My 580 doesn't seem to OC at all. I know my CPU is holding me back, but just for poop and giggles I tried to OC with afterburner, stock is at 782 and pretty much won't go any higher without nvidia driver crashing.

Just tried to go to 801 on the core, ran heaven, skipped through some scenes and driver crashed. Great.

Errgh,,, not a real update in my opinion. They nerfed compute quite a bit compared to your full-fat Fermi, and it might be the case that the 580 could do a bit better in some games that WILL use compute a bit (new Tomb Raider using DirectCompute for fancy hairs) which does a lot better on AMD 7xxx series and only the GTX Titan for effects that use compute power.

I just fear that the GK104's weak compute will obsolete it faster if developers start using more compute power in games, which is happening sooner than later.

Yeah, I find it very funny how nvidia touts GPU computing as such a big thing yet they completely nixxed it with the 600 series with the exception of titan. Thats the main reason I have not upgraded. Not to mention this whole GPU boost crazyness. Just give me good old fashion overclocking back.

Agreed. Titan is the only worthy upgrade from fermi in my book. They varished the GK104 with fancy boosts & high graphics clocks, but if you look at the full package, fermi's offering is much more balanced.

Tomb raider 2013 in 3D is breathtaking by the way, for those with the hardware to support it. The hair!!
