My default voltage is 1.0880v. I found out that default voltage can vary from GPU to GPU. I was always wondering why other people would get lower temps than me at stock core default voltage.

Here are some of my 580 SC clocks to help you. All voltage on these were using my default 1.0880v.

The GTX 580 SC is 3% gain higher than a GTX 580 'vanilla' at stock speeds. All my scores shown are from GPU-Z readings, using GPU validation to show me my percentage gains.

39-40C idle @ stock 797Mhz core on SC which is a 3% gain over vanilla stock. 797 Core /1013 Memory /1594 Shader

40-41C idle @ 838Mhz core on SC which is 8% gain over vanilla stock. 838/1061/1676

41-42C idle @ 855Mhz core on SC which is 10% gain over vanilla stock. 855/1086/1710

42-43C idle @ 875Mhz core on SC which is 13% gain over vanilla stock. 875/1111/1750

43-44C idle @ 890Mhz core on SC which is 15% gain over vanilla stock. 890/1135/1780

To go higher stable I have to bump my GPU to 1.1000 voltage.

44-46C idle @912Mhz core on SC which is 17% gain over vanilla stock.

Now when I OC I bump up across the board for Core / Memory / Shader to be exactly the same percentage gain on each GPU-Z validation.

I got clocked to on my final score 3D Mark 11 'performance' score of 6902. On an i7 950 @ 3.8Ghz OC - GPU 1.1000 voltage @ 912Mhz core.

I stopped here by choice as I'm on air and seemed to go unstable any further.

I currently run however 24/7 OC 875/1110/1751 at lowered 1.0500v for 13% gain over 'vanilla' clocks at this voltage I run 40C-41C idle and gaming my highest temp reached full throttle 80C.

Hope this helps you guys gauge the difference from reference to non-reference.

Wow very precise information and read outs thumb.gif

A couple of things I am interested in though:

1.)What were your load temps through your overclocking experience above the 900MHZ barrier?

2.)Did you experience any bottlenecking with the 3.8 GHZ 950?
I too have that CPU and I gained about 15% performance in Vantage by clocking it to 4.5GHZ

3.)That one concerns non ref: I would like to know the limit for a 24/7 clock that will keep cool and stable.

Since all Non Ref cards from the various companies have indiviudal coolers and chip overclocking behavior determining such a clock/voltage is of course pretty hard, but I can imagine a certain guidline or at least perimeter of an overclock that should achieve the aforementioned goal.

I personally think a ´+ 1V voltage & 910-930MHZ should stlil be manageable to be handled quite cool and stable right?

Here's a few runs on stock cooling with the 580 Lightning, around +.160/.170v on all of them

I think i gonna settle at +106(exactly 1.1) at 925. Barely touch 66 at 3dmark11. And i think that is stable. Need further testing.

After reading through this entire thread (painfully) I am still trying to figure out what is the max safe offset voltage I can set in MSI AB with my 580 Lightnings? My max OC at the moment is 900MHz Core at +25mV. Weirdly my VCCD in GPU-z remains at 1.025 under load no matter what I set the offset to in AB.

For the record, 900MHz at +25mV is stable in every test I've run but I'm trying to figure how much higher I can bump the offset safely. Max allowable is +200mV. Am I right in thinking that MSI set this max offset as the maximum a 580 Lightning can handle? If so, my goal of 950MHz core may be possible....

I think if you stay under 1.2 you would be fine. But don't wuote me on this.

I think that goes without saying, that anyone attempting over clocking should head warning and that one persons results doesn't necessarily mean same results, as they will vary from GPU to GPU. Any one over clocking should also know that the threat or risk is entirely on their own shoulders at their own risk if anything should go wrong.

KungPow - I answered your questions under my post in same post edited just above you.

I returned my CPU to its base clock and tried again to overclock my 580 dCII SLI to 850 MHZ . The result was a failure!

Heaven DX11 Benchmark 2.5 crushed after 5 minutes and gave me this message:
D3D11appwindow::swap_window(): device removed

Voltage and memory clock was at stock and max temperature was 70

Hey Moayad, welcome to OCN. smile.gif

Secondly, great thing to do is complete your system specs in Bio under 'Edit System' so everyone knows what your system is when you post. It helps us a lot when you post to know what your dealing with.

Again welcome. smile.gif

I said that becouse 1.2 is my absolut limit. Currently at 925 @ 1.1(+106) and barely touch 52 degrees in GTA IV. So there is no point to me to OC further. This thing is a beast even at stock clocks.

I know i can achieve more. But i don't need it.... now.
