New computer?

Thread Starter
Hi, Im new here,

I have an old dell pc and wana uprgade. I have a friend who wants to sell his computer and says its very good for gaming.
He says its a quad core with 2gb of ram and HD graphics card (like 4000 something). He also says it has 500gb hard drive.

I have a dual core 1gb of ram and non-HD videocard (nvidia7000) and only 160gb hardrive.

He was asking 1200$ for it but I managed to make it 1105$ by negotiating tongue.gif
Btw, he payed 1500$ for it 2 years ago so it looks like a pretty good deal.

Should I buy it? Its at least 2x as fast as mine biggrin.gif

Quad core with 2GB of ram an I'm guessing an HD4800 series card is not worth anywhere near $1,000. I'd pay maybe $600-$700 if it was a good quad core like a Q9650 or something and an HD4870. If it's an AMD quad core, I wouldn't pay higher than $500.

I don't think it wold be worth 1200 or even 1105. Off newegg (if you build the computer) for about $1100-$1200 you can get an amd x4 core or even x6, 8gb of RAM, and a HD 6000 series GPU. You should be able to get a 1tb or 1.5tb HDD as well. (The $1100-$1200 price tag also includes essentials like the case, motherboard, and psu.)

He is ripping you off at that price.

That thing is probably worth $500 on a good day.

No, I can already tell you're overpaying by a lot.

Computer components depreciate faster than a car. But $1200 is too much unless he's including a nice premium IPS monitor, a mechanical keyboard, and a lot of other premium gear I can't ever see it being worth $1200. It's two years old, cut the price by half. My guess it may only be worth about $700 at the most.

My brother just bought this and a 22" monitor for €500 or about $700 and a 4870 for €45 (65) for another rig. I reckon he got a good deal but with cheaper hardware in America than Ireland you shouldn't be paying an extra $300 unless he's giving you one hell of a rig.
Sounds like your friend is ripping you off...

If you have $1105 to spend, buy your own parts new, you will have a beast system that 3-5x more powerful than his 2 year PC.

Are you in USA or Canada?
