4087 instead of 4096? (2x2GB)

Thread Starter
My task manager is reading 4087 instead of 4096 and I am wondering what might cause this.

Thanks.

I heard some RAM is used for caching, and feeding your GPU some bogus VRAM.

Think Hypermemory, Turbo Memory, etc.

RAM is used in a similar way to crop rotation, where a small section is left unused to let the electrons regenerate.

Hmmm interesting. Yeah bios shows 4088. Never noticed it until I went to install the CM mode for HL2 and it told me I didn't have 4096 of ram.

idk what you're smoking but that isn't true.

The BIOS will usually have a shadow on RAM that uses up some space, but it shouldn't take up more than 1-2MB.

Mine has always showed 8191MB (8192MB is 8GB) for when I've had 8GB. When I had 4GB, I think it was always 4095MB (4096MB is 4GB). So, I've always been 1MB short, and Resource Monitors shows it as "Hardware Reserved", so it's from the BIOS.
