I've got a bit of an update!

I spent some time today tearing apart my rig because something is on the way...

It should be with me on Monday so I wanted to get a head start and not waste any time, so I got straight into it. The Mrs would have murdered me if she'd seen the state of our dining table. Luckily for me she was to be out for hours! (The colourful canvases are something she makes in her spare time and sells on eBay - I'm making her a website in an attempt to fire up a small business for her to make crafty-things);

And in this picture you can see the SLR which I should have used, but was powerless sadsmiley.gif

I figured that while I was there, I'd clean everything - so I got my trusty lint-free cloths out and went to town on all my components. The fans got cleaned up along with the radiator for the Kuhler 920, which was actually much cleaner than I thought! I also wanted to reseat the pump as I had a shipment of MX-4 arrive a while back which I've been dying for an excuse to use!

Previous spread wasn't too bad, maybe a little thin;

My weapons of choice;

Cleaned!

Application;

I also thought that I could do a better job of tidying up the power cable for the pump, so after refitting I ran it underneath the mounting bracket and ran it around the base before connecting it to the motherboard;

Much cleaner (you can barely see it in fact, just coming out on the bottom right);

So this is what my poor rig looks like as of now;

More updates early next week biggrinsmiley.gif

I've been a little busy recently building a commissioned rig by a friend from work. He emailed me and said he wanted a high-end gaming machine and had a respectable budget so we set to work on agreeing a spec that would do what he wanted without breaking the bank unnecessarily.

In the end we decided on the following;

- i7 2600k CPU
- ASUS P8Z68 Pro Motherboard
- 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
- Palit GTX 680 GPU
- Crucial M4 128GB SSD
- Seagate Barracude 2TB HDD
- Antec Kuhler 620 CPU Cooler
- Corsair HX650W PSU

So without further ado, let the pictures do the talking!

What have we here?

img0458tj.jpg

Ah, lovely - a very expensive pile of parts;

img0464ek.jpg

All laid out ready for the build-on-a-box POST test;

img0466ie.jpg

All done, my Raven has found itself a new home!

img0480by.jpg

It's hard to see, but the SSD is hidden behind the 5.25" bays;

img0470se.jpg

He wanted an overclocked machine that performed well and would last several years, but nothing too extreme. In the end I settled for a 4.8GHz overclock (HT on) @ 1.408v maxing the 620 @ 79c. The GTX 680 was comfortable at +120/+400 netting ~9,800 points in 3DMark11. Pretty respectable!

A brief update on my rig below.

My NZXT Switch 810 arrived but suffered some damage during the manufacturing process;

I'll be getting in touch with the Vendor to source a replacement, so am currently waiting on that.

I'd like to extend thanks to Xnine, an NZXT rep for being helpful and understanding throughout the process.
