Sweet!
When i upgraded my system yesterday i made the mistake of trying to plug my ide dvd-rom into a asus p8p67 pro which does'nt have ide, only sata, lol i was very sad as i could'nt even instal windows on my new setup, luckily though i was armed with a super slow netbook and a 4gb usb, soon got windows installed after sitting here scratching my head for 4 hours.
Just got a sata dvd-rom and installed Shift 2 and i've gone from a very crappy 20-50fps, mostly around 30 and stuttering like crazy to a solid 60fps with plenty of cpu power left.
Going to try with vysnc off, woo!
Gta iv has gone from 30fps to a solid 60 aswell.

That Phenom 965 at 3.9ghz was a right bag of crap.

Things like this make me happy that my new £350 upgrade is worth starving for the next month lol

Edit

Just tried numerous res's and settings with shift 2, all i can say is wow, shift 2 still uses 50% of the cpu but my frames have gone up extremely high with 800x600, average was 180fps, with the phenom 965 with all settings off or low and same 800x600 res i was getting 30ish fps, allso note that gpu runs around 40% at them 180fps, so a higher clock will give me more gpu usage and more fps.
This is a crappy port aswell but now with a oc'd 2500k the game flys!
Game is allso playable is stereoscopic 3d now, but sadly i find that my gpu is maxed out now, before with the 965 i was around 40% gpu at unplayable settings no matter what res or settings was changed. lol.

Well I've gotten up to around 5.5GHz on 2 cores anyway. Doing some minor tweaks here and there as I go had some decent results.

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1968403

Also clocked down my memory to 1600MHz just in case, seems to help I think.

EDIT: Thinking x55 is my limit (maybe not he chips limit), at least for the cooling I have, I don't want to go any higher in voltage. Couldn't boot into x56 in like 6 tries tweaking other settings around here and there. I went as high as 1.60v, no more for me. At least I got some results trying.

sweet! try 5.6 mate!

try to match PLL, VCSSA/VTT, VCCIO voltages
don't be afraid to use 1.7v just for a validation, just don't stress it

i hope you could make it a x57! cheers!

@ Nightz2k

1 thing mate..disable you spread spectrum so that you BLCK will stay fixed at 100mhz
leaving that enable could cause you instability..

speedstep enable..you might need it

cpu limits at 255 both
and boost limit at 300

Thanks for the help, but for now I'm done trying. (Did all that too)

Maybe I'll try again in the next coming months since it'll be cooler out going into winter. It's still pretty hot weather here yet.

Can anybody give me some info on temps please.
I'm using a Noctua NH-D14 with stock fans at max. I've included a screenshot of hwmonitor showing my cpu temps at load, while stress testing last night even after 10 runs the temps was going no higher than what we now see with 3 runs so thats my max temp really.

Ambient temp next to pc is 22c.
3 cores are are very close but there's 1 core that's cool.
There's a 7c temp difference between my coolest core and my next coolest core, there's allso a temp difference between my coolest core and my hottest core of 12c.
Is this normal to have such wide varients of temps on cores with the 2500k or would you say i need to reseat my cooler?

Well, not all cores have the same temps always. Just this morning when I was testing the stability of my 5.0Ghz OC, I run IBT and after a short while, core 1 sat at high 60's while cores 2 and 3 where happily toasting at 85C ....
