Add me. I got on the $149 deal with the $60 off motherboard combo at microcenter a while back. I'm mostly an AMD guy but I am pleased with the 2500k performance. Runs a bit hot considering it's on water but that's being knit picky I guess. 4.0ghz at 1.2 volts is pretty dang sweet in my book. biggrin.gif

Will pick up my i5 and MSI z68a gd65 tommorow. Chuffed to bits is an understatement for the feelings I have right now.
Finally after all these years (Last Intel I had was a s478 P4 3.0 Ghz w/ HT) I'll come back to Intel :')

Going to decorate the house right now, bake a cake en clean out my case so it feels right at home wheee.gif

Hey guys...

I just finished rebuilding my system.. took out my Phenom II 955; and replaced it with the i5-2500K!

Got it running on an ASRock Z68 Ex4 Gen3 Motherboard, with a Corsair H50 running a pair of AP-15's in push/pull...

Everything is working, and the system boots up and I can access the BIOS, etc...

But according the BIOS, the 2500K is running at 92C!!

After a few minutes, if I put my fingers on the back plate on the back of the Mobo, I can feel it getting exceptionally hot, and one of the fluid lines on the H50 is also VERY hot...

According to the BIOS, the chip is defaulting to a VCore of around 1.040 - 1.090...

Is it possible though, that I might have applied TOO MUCH, thermal paste on the chip before I mounted the H50? Could that actually result in such high Temps on this chip?

As per recommendations on the Water Cooling forums here on OCN, when I asked about replacing the TIM on the H50, it was suggested that I put 4 small dots on each corner of the 2500K... so I did that, though I also took a razor blade and used its edge to smooth out the 4 dots into a nice thin layer of paste over the CPU; and then wiped off whatever small amount of paste was left on the blade, onto the H50...

I used MX-4, for reference...

Yea, a lot of people use too much TIM.
I go with a little dot in the center. I never spread it out though. It causes airpockets when you put the block on.

Check out this vid (there are others on his channel as well):

Turns out it wasn't the TIM...

After redoing the TIM at least several times...

I have found the problem!

The H50's PUMP, was not properly plugged into the PWR_FAN header! It was only plugged into, 2 pins, on the motherboard and so was not properly fitting onto the 3 pin header.

BIOS now shows the CPU holding at a nice 33c!

So problem resolved!

Alright! Got everything working finally...

So now I can ask for my official entry into the Club! As per membership requirements, here's my pic! biggrin.gif

Gah, well... the pic shows up at full resolution in my OCN Photo Album, but clicking on it here only gives half its original resolution, so the image is a little blurred. Hope it counts!
