Project Wooden Box NEW CASE, SAME ASTHETIC, SAME THREAD - Page 2

Part 3.1 Bottom

So today I decided to take a crack at the bottom of the box (the old bottom was thin and flimsy feeling). I'm making the bottom out of two planks of 1x8 pine (each 21" long), so that they'll match the box and also provide a little support.

Calling me an amateur carpenter would be generous, so this was a bit "touch and go".

Anyway here we go

unused saw and plank of wood (the 1x8 is underneath):

I used the pictured electric jigsaw to cut the bottom and tada:

and my precision workmanship left some edges:

which I've largely touched up, though I'll finish it off when I've done a few more screws on the bottom

and tada (sorry for the hideous pic):

it's getting dark, and my hand hurts from sanding, so that's a wrap on the work.

Then the layout you pictured would have quite a lot of space for drives (vertically standing will cool them better).

If you use a slim DVD drive maybe you can fit it under the motherboard tray, so you have even more space for hard drives/pump
I may take your advice on the hard drives. As for the radiator, I actually have a decent amount of room and want to go for a better one. I agree a slim dvd drive would be nice, but I'm not wasting my pioneer blu-ray drive

Part 3.2 Some more "internals" work

My Loop plans:
EK Supreme HF CPU Block
XSPC Ultimate GPU Block
XSPC RX360 Extreme w/ 3x GT AP-15s
Swiftech MCP350
Black PrimoFlex Pro LRT 1/2 ID 3/4 OD 0
-unsure about reservoir-

I'm thinking of switching the fan on the PSU to an AP-15 (before I use the thing, I hate opening up PSUs that still have those enormous capacitors charged).

edit: What do all you overclockers think about these

yeah, it feels like I could throw the thing against a wall.

New gadget came (Project was halted due to no shipping over the 4th weekend):

and here is a quick example of the planned layout. The white paper insert is going to be a Mountain Mods 5.25" drive bay (I decided to go for 5.25x5 so it will be taller, the pictured is more like a 5.25x3). A glass cover will go over the motherboard, and a wood cover will cover the drive bay and power supply.

Some more progress:

Well I got a new fun present in the mail. Sorry for the surrounding clutter:

And I ripped one side off the box (very few original sides left) to make room for the mountain mods brushed motherboard tray and all its fixing.

And I'm putting in an order tonight for some more goodies:

The MB tray is just about .5" to wide for the box, so I'm going to be cutting all but the screw holes out with a jigsaw, and then cutting slots out of the walls to allow for the screw hole "tabs" that remain. This will all be made clear in time. The other side will be receiving the PSU and 5.25" drive bay.

A New Beginning:

I've realized that fitting all the loop stuff/hardware in the wine box will not be easy/pretty. I've decided to upgrade to a much more spacious and elegant case design. Essentially I'm just building a full-atx tower out of wood now. Sorry for not posting, but I've been busy working on it the last couple days, and also have had little access to a computer (my lappy's in the shop for screen repairs).

Anyway, I've got to be quick so I'll just let the pictures do most of the talking. I got some really nice wood this time around from a new place. Here it all chopped up (unfortunately all I have for this job is a jig-saw).

And here's a look at the bottom nicely fitting together. The wood is absolutely gorgeous. I went with pine since I'm a nooby and didn't want to destroy anything too too expensive.

You can see my amazing work area (I only have 1 saw horse for christ sake). Nothing special, but it works fine. And here is another pic. If you don't yet own and over-sized white-board, I suggest you pick one up.

Say hello to Mr. Radish, or whatever that thing is.

Bought a 90 degree angle and did some screwing.

And some more screwing.

The back fit in really tightly. Possibly too tightly, but we will see. I don't want it to spit the wood glue right back out when I do a final fit.

Trying on the second back board. Took a fair bit of sanding the various edges to get it to fit, but it's quite snug now. I'm not equipped to do any sort of fancy joinery unfortunately, but I would have really liked to.

Hand chiseling some notches for the one shelf (that the radiator and power supply with sit upon). Yes, I did say chiseling.

Both notches took about 3/4 hours. That was my first experience with a chisel. I used a 1/2 inch chisel, because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep the 3/4 inch straight enough. Here is the shelf inserted:

Sorry for all the akward sideways shots. I'm not on my own computer, and tis the curse of the iphone I'm afraid.

Anyway, that is all for now. More work later, but I must go attend to the real world. Someone should comment.

I've been at work, but haven't posted in a while. Mainly because of the lack of comments. I just got my wisdom teeth out, so posting is really all I can do right now. Anyway, here are the pics

First I cut up the motherboard I/O plate panel:

Now to cut a hole for the plate:

hole cut:

hours and hours of sanding:

and now that "bezel" thing

and now to cut some wood off to make the metal flush with the wood:

the metal fits well, but I need to clean up the edges a little more
