The AMD ASRock Extreme Series Motherboard Club - Page 46

hey guys just put the 990fx extreme 4 into my comp with my amd 1055t. Now I am starting the overclocking and I notice that in hw monitor under the motherboard section there is a temp reading called "CPUTIN" and also a set of temps for each core under the processor section. they are DRASTICALLY different. Under the board it says my CPU idols at 37c but under the processor it idols at 19c.

Which one is right? or am I reading hw monitor wrong? I would like to know before I push my system.

I am in my basement, so the air is prob like 60-65f, which is what hw monitor says my cores idol at under the processor reading (19c=65f)

I have the xigmateck Dark Knight cpu air cooler and plenty of case vent.

thanks!

Are you using C'n'Q. If so I would believe the 19. And I think thurbans cpu temps sensor is about 12C off so both sound right.

Max temp of 71. Lets hope so. Dont let it get above 60 to be safe.

WOW thanks so much for this! i gave you some rep cuz I was too dumb to find that myself lol. in light of that I do have one tiny question. under load my cpu temp (read from mobo) gets up to 65C and thats when I stopped prime95 while my core temp was only at 51C. I would just like to be clear before I go hotter. According to the article I only have to look at the core temp 51C so I could still go a little hotter? obviously I don't want to have it be running over 65C so I want to be sure I can ignore that cpu temp.

I have 2 intake and 3 extake fans in my case by the way and it still disturbs me that that cpu temp gets so high...

I hear ya there. Your cooler only has 3 heat pipes. Compare that to a Noctua D14 which has 6. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018
You'll be fighting temps till you reduce your OC or upgrade cooling solution, plain and simple. I just moved my rig from a M59 where I ran an internal mount 80mm fan (use to be a 120mm when air cooling) which helped out a bunch. If you look close at pics you'll see the fan mounted to the back side of the 5.25" drive bays and is angled (back towards mobo) to blow on the NB HS, Ram and VRM HS,s. With the 120mm it also helped feed the CPU HS lots of cool air from the front inlets of the case. Another thought might be to have the rear, top mounted fan as exhaust, while leaving the front, top mount as intake to also help feed the CPU HS.

This new Xigmatek Elysium case has a 120mm fan on the back side of the mobo (right side cover) which lowers CPU Socket temps by 3-4c. Something to think about adding to the M59?

I'd stop when my cores reached 55c if it was me. My core temps stay at a max of 38-39c under prime95 in my sig rig. I only mention this to give you a comparison of how high your temps really are with the Xigmatek.
