Actually, it looks like it does dump a little beat of heat above the SLI connectors.

I don't think so, if you look it isn't actually part of the cooler, it is an add on and I think the notches are for looks.

I think these cards that are ment for overclocking should just come with a waterblock as standerd for 2 reasons.

1. Nobody makes waterblocks for the extreme cards.

2. Extreme cards just shouldn't be alound to run on air.

What you fail to realize though is that this design is a lot more functional than that of the lightning or matrix cards. This card doesn't have any part of the cooler hanging over the sli connectors which means 4-way sli is possible natively. Also, I quite like the design because it doesn't blow all that hot air into your case. And depending on the power delivery and quality of the chips, we could see a real record breaker here.

Thing is, is that these extreme cards are really meant for breaking records on ln2. So what is the point of putting a waterblock on them when that would increase the cost substantially to us and the overclocker buying them will have to take the water block off anyways?

I understand this but the thing is the amount of cards used by LN2 overclockers VS the amount bought by public.

Same can be said about them putting an air cooler on.

Us enthusiasts who buy these products are already a very small part of the market, even smaller is the amount of people that water cool, even smaller is the amount of people who use ln2/dice for overclocking.

No, because the cost to us of a card that has an air cooler vs a card that has a water block is substantial.
