Custom GPU cover - Page 2

ive had an acrylic case for years and if anybody plans on buying one - just don't tongue.gif they are a nightmare to manage and take lots of caring not to make scratches and such. The one good thing about them (well aside the looks) is that you can disassemble them to really basic pieces and throw them in a bath if they get too dirty tongue.gif

load only 60c at 60% fan? Even after a few runs of unigine at highest settings it doesnt hit 70?

I'll try a few runs and check my temps to see where they are, but my normal load temps after a few hours of gaming (i.e BC2, Crysis, etc) has never gone above 60c. I'll get back later today with temps after those unigine runs though.

oh wow, maybe since i got 2 in CF the heat from the bottom card is raising my temps. guess ill have to try to get some more air between them. Ur flashed card, is it just shaders or core/mem/volt as well?

It shaders only currently. I just haven't updated my sig yet. Had it flashed to 6970 BIOS but it started becoming unstable, so I just modified the 6950 BIOS to unlock shaders only. By the way, here is that picture I promised. It was on the last stage of the 2nd run of unigine with GPU pegged at 99% usage.

As you can see, temperature is maxed at 56c I'm sure I could get it higher if I REALLY tried, but I think it's safe to say that these temps are about as high as they will get under normal everyday gaming loads.

icic, i think its prolly cuz i have my cards at 840/1325 with +12% power, would explain the 10-15 degree difference. im assuming since ur making ur own housing u want to oc past ccc overdrive limits? prolly for the best, i tried 900/1375 +20% power last night, 1 run of unigine bourght me to 99c, so that didnt last. im going to get 2 t-rad2's soon and try to OC higher

UPDATE #3:

Disassembled my 6950 today and to my dismay I realized that this project might have to be scrapped The heatsink is pretty much built into the housing of the card, so if I want to move forward with this, I would have to do some careful removing of very important parts that have to stay in tact. Not saying it can't be done, just will take a little more contemplating on my part in figuring out how to do it without breaking anything. On a positive note, I was able to get some measurements and I replaced the stock TIM on the heatsink with some Cooler Master TIM I got with my 212+ and already noticed a 2c drop in idle temps within 30 minutes of applying. Not sure if that stuff has a burn in time, but I will load up a few Unigine runs to see how load temps are. As for the project, as of right now it is still a go, but will have to be delayed a bit so I can figure things out.
