Well I go thte TFIII in and it is a solid card. I am a little underwhelmed from the inital gains that I got out of it in 3DMark06 though. I went from 26,500 with the 5850 at 850/1200 to 27,500 with the TFIII at 900/1325. I really need to clarify that though. When I bought the 5850 I was running a 955 at 3.5ghz. My scores were around 14,000. Then I upgraded to the 1100T and they went up to 20,000 with the 1100T at 4ghz. About a month ago I went up to 26,500 with the 5850 in my current sig rig.
Mind you I am not complaining about the MSI because it is a very solidly made board. The quality is apparent from the moment you take it out of the package. The cooler is awesome and it OC'D witout any dramatics at all. Will it unlock? Well I donlt really know and honestly that isn't why I bought it. To the cards credit while I did't really see much of a gain on 3DMark06, I saw a 21% increase in the Heaven benchmarks. As the score on DX11 went from 800 to 1020, with DX9-10 hitting around the 2000 mark.
Further the 5850 did not do well with any tessselation or AA on. This board just doesn't slow down for pretty much any settings I want to throw at it. I know about the 1gig-2gig arguements but I play at 1080P and this board is overkill as it is. The performance gain was not as apparent as I had hoped when first installed but the attributes that make this board a great board become clear as I push it.
OVerall I would give it 8-10. It is well made comes with a great gpu cooler that is QUIET in silent mode but still maintains enough air flow to prevent self destruction. It has a good software packeage that comes with it and does have the dual BIOS switch, (Yes I did say that because that is what the owners manual calls it, a DUEL BIOS switch). Can it unlock, agian I don't know. If it does great then I get a bonus, if it doesn't well I still got what I consider to be my money's worth even if the intital 3D score was a little disappointing.
OVerall easily an 8 out of 10. Could even push 9 out of if the temps stay low and the BIOS update opens up more OC headroom.
Thanks for reading and have a great day.
