Best thermal paste for AMD phenom

Thread Starter
What is the best paste that does not need to be reapplied for the life of the CPU? (3-4 years)

Arctic silver keeps failing after a year. (temp goes up)

shin etsu and mx2 are very good. I would nab the shin etsu though.

Arctic Cooling claims that MX-2 is good for 8 years (don't know how they came to that conclusion exactly since it hasn't been on the market that long wink.gif ). Either one should do the job well. I use MX-2 myself because I can get it relatively inexpensively in larger quantities and it works well and is easy to clean up. I go through a lot of TIM testing heatsinks.

Does the glue type work better than the non-cohesives?

I'm another MX-2 fanboy. I've been using it a long time. It spreads easy and its very easy to clean up. I have some shin etsu and its a good paste but I didn't notice a difference in temps and it doesn't spread or clean up as easily as MX-2.

NEVER use the glue/adhesive types on your CPU
the performance isn't as good, plus the heatsink is already held on by screws/brackets

:edit:
i also use mx-2. bought 4 tubes of it last time it was on sale haha

Arctic Silver 5 compound is what I use, no problems here and low temps.

Shin-Etsu X23 7762 for imperfect/rougher surfaces (unlapped H50/H70, HDT style heat sinks)

Shin-Etsu X23 7783D for very smooth/lapped heat sinks and water blocks.

I came back with the mx4, is it supposedly better than the mx2? It was 10 dollars vs 5 for the mx2.
it's unopened I can still return it.

I'm using a Thermalright U120 Extreme from 2007, I did not polish it in any way. (same with the heatspreader on the cpu)

Is the MX4 still a good option in this case?
