The Anvil

Ladies and gentlemen of this fine forum...I present to you my first build log for my first computer build.

I've been dreaming for years upon years of building this PC and the day (also the money) has come. I give you...my Anvil with which I will forge great works of cinematic, storytelling brilliance and with which I will pwn many n00bs (probably in Battlefield 3).

I shall list off the parts AND link to my public Newegg wishlist.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/Pu...umber=13564551

Components:
-Intel Core i7 2600k
Cooled by:
-Noctua NH-D14
-Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z
-16GB Mushkin Redline Ridgeback Model #997000
-2 MSI GTX 580 Lightning Xtreme Editions in SLI
-OCZ Vertex 3 240GB
-4 2TB HITACHI Deskstar 7K3000s in RAID 5
-Lite On Blu-Ray Burner Model #IHBS112-29
All Powered by:
-OCZ ZX Series 1250W Fully-Modular Power Supply
All Mounted Inside:
-Silverstone Raven RV02-E Black with Window

Peripherals:
-Razer BlackWidow Ultimate
-Logitech G500

So...any suggestions on parts? I'll admit I didn't research the memory, power supply, or Blu-Ray burner as much as the other stuff, but everything seems to be good. I've bought the 2600k, the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate (which I absolutely love), and the Logitech G500 (hasn't yet arrived at this present moment), so those are sort of out of the question at this point, but any tips/suggestions on parts or general building practice would be greatly appreciated. Also, I haven't decided on a mouse pad yet. I'd like a HUGE gaming grade mouse pad. Any suggestions on that? I've heard Steel Series' are the best.

Check back later for updates and the full build log!

The only thing I can say is that I've heard the Vertex's have instability issues; perhaps go with an Agility 3?

A beast like that deserves a drink: put it on water.

Full set up, CPU and GPUs. Why not?

Quick update on the mouse pad situation. Bought the Razer Goliathus - Speed Edition (444mm x 355mm x 4.3mm / 17.48" x 13.98" x 0.17") last night. Hope I'm happy with it. Almost bought the SteelSeries QcK Heavy but decided I didn't want something that thick just in case my keyboard has to (as it inevitably will) overlap onto the mouse pad on one side. Then I almost bought the SteelSeries QcK+ but read numerous reviews of the Logitech G500 having trouble tracking on it. So I went with the Razer pad. Hope it works out ok...

Do you guys have any more information on the G500's tracking issues? It kind of confuses me. It makes no sense to me that it could track fine on, say, a desk surface yet struggle on the seemingly more optimized surface of the SteelSeries QcK+. Hope I don't regret getting that mouse. Either way, not worried. Newegg'll help me out!

Very nice build you have going on! I'd like to find out how u get on with the mouse as I'm still undecided on my keyboard and mouse. Am making do with Bluetooth lenovo ones I took from work.

I'd go for the Intel SSD's over anything else. Proved tried and true!
