From what I gather on Sanyo Denki's 120 mm fan page, there is no PWM version that is rated at that slow a speed. They do have a couple of 120 X 25 mm PWM controlled fans, but they are rated between 5100 at 100% duty cycle and 1650 rpm at 0% duty cycle.
BTW, I don't see why you would need PWM control in the first place on such a quiet fan as the 9S1212P4M011 anyway. It's only a 24 dBA fan in the first place and only moves 58.6 cfm at full speed.
I have eight of them. Two are on my Mugen 2. The reason to have PWM versions of the San Ace Silent series is that sometimes 24 dB is too loud - such as when your case is a half meter from your ear.
San Ace Silents run from L at 1500 rpm to H at 2700 rpm (pdf). I like them. The M was the only hole in my collection. Then I found the opportunity to buy some. I could buy from one to eight for $100. So I got eight. The vendor was Tonar.com, a distributor. I also found some 9S1212P4H051's 9S1212P4H061's, but it turned out those were all going to a particular client who had ordered them. My 9S1212P4M011's represented Tonar's getting eight too many.
BTW-1: the P stands for PWM.
BTW-2: I'll be selling four of mine when I'm done testing. I'll be running three on my D14 so I'll be using five of my eight. But after that, four or six go to the FS board.
There appears to be two 91S1212P4M011 models: one spins from 800 to 1850rpm (here), the other from 800 to 2200rpm (here); both types are also mentioned in a Chinese discussion forum, as is a 9S1212P4F011 (which may be the 2200rpm one). Additionally, there's a -L011 model that ranges spins from 800 to 1500rpm (here). There's a high-speed version too but I can't find anything about it. I wish Sanyo would release those to the US.
Ahhhh. PWM versions of Sanyo Denki's best fans. A grid of specs for the non-PWM fans in the Silent series is here. The 9S1212L401 is the best fan I have for quiet performance.
The 9S1212P4MO11's are comparable to the Gentle Typhoon AP-15, but they make more of a tone when they run at full speed; the AP-15's are quieter. OTOH being PWM makes all the difference in the world.
I'm with you. I wish we could get them here in the US. I only was able to get mine by chance: the distributed over-ordered by eight fans, and it was willing to sell them all for $100. Quite a bargain, even with tax and shipping.
I woulda snapped that up too, definitely. And thank you for the comparison on fan speeds. Are the San Ace fans still comparable to Gentle Typhoons at lower speeds? Would a PWM modded AP14 or 15 be better overall?
For what it's worth, Sager Electronics (another distributor) lists both the 9S1212P4M01/M011 (ribbed and ribless) and the 9S1212P4F01 (I think the 800-2200rpm one) on their site, but since they don't stock the fans they won't take orders less than 30 units. If there's enough interest I can call them up tomorrow to see what lead times are if we got a 30+ unit order.
Unfortunately you can't do a PWM mod on the lower speed GT's. Either they come with PWM or they don't. I don't know why you can do a PWM mod on the highspeed GT's. Perhaps they sell few enough ATM that it doesn't (yet) make sense to have separate PCB's.
It will be interesting to know what a batch of SA Silents would cost at Sager. Newark/Premier/Farnell prices tend to be high, from a few cases I have seen.
The answer is... 14-16 week lead time, and they'd need a factory quote first before they can give me a per-unit quote. We can extrapolate from the pricing of their non-PWM fans that it's probably in the $20-23 range, but short of putting a group buy together and calling with with "We'll be buying X fans," it doesn't look like I'll get far.
Sorry to drag up this old thread but this is the first thing that shows up in google when searching for San Ace 9S1212P4M011 so if figured it may help others looking for the same model.
Ordered them on the 17th, was shipped the next day, and arrived here in the US on the 24th. So it turns out it was legit but unfortunately the M011s are no longer available, though the F011 is still listed.
I tested it briefly against a GT AP-14 and with the San Ace brought down to 1450RPM the sound level was comparable though, like ehume mentioned, there was a slight whine to the San Ace that was audible at a close distance. So at the same speed the San Ace seems to push a little more air though with a slight tone compared to the GT but being able to drop it down to 850RPM using PWM is awesome.
