Would appreciate the hook up Raging. Nvidia inspector, msi afterburner and GPU-Z all report one clock at full speed. The others drop nicely. If you throw your bios my way would be great.

What zombie book by the way, I enjoy a a good undead read smile.gif

E: Any joy on posting your own bios Raging? Cheers.

I have about 5 good Z-books at the moment, I am reading:
Patient Zero

City of the Dead
Apocalypse of the Dead
Flesh Eaters

Rise Again <- Currently Reading (actually really good, but the 3rd part is getting ridiculous, in kind of a good way.)

@All with Idling Issues
Okay, lets start the hard way, IF you have power idle not working, something is forcing it into full power. I have done everything I can try. It has to be on your end.

The only way to 100% test if IDLE is working is using JUST afterburner, AND ONLY afterburner OPEN. No website, no programs, IDLE on the desktop. NOT EVEN MOVING ZE MOUSE!

It is not the BIOS. I flashed every single BIOS you guys are using, not one issue except when opening other programs like GPU-z.

STILL though evidence: here is an image, detailing nVidia Inspector open causes me to go from idle to full speed for over 20 seconds, closing, allowed me to idle. Second hump in the graph is GPU-z opening. GPU-z eventually allows me to idle. Nvidia Inspector if it is open, seems to force me to stay in max power. I don't like that, infact I am back on the experimental bios kick.

idleworking.png

Regardless, I have uploaded EVGA BIOSes of mine, similar to Juggalo Specials, these are RagingCain specials for EVGA.

RagingCain Specials 2, are similar to Juggalo's Specials, and may actually overclock better at least past 700 MHz, but you have to try it, your mileages may vary.

Hi Ragin,

Tried your new BIOS' for EVGA's
EVGA - Stock Clock - 0.963v Min-1.063v Max: Link - Doesn't recognize adapter and exits immediately
EVGA (RagingCain Specials(2)) - Stock Clock - 0.963v Min-1.063v Max: Link - Recognizes adapter, but Error in updating.

Your old 0.963 driver works for me "EVGA-Patched-0.963v.rar". Perfectly fine, idles and all. Unlocked fan speeds too. Idles are fine when you look at them through the correct program. Indeed GPU-Z and other crap makes it max itself out. I have no access to adjust P stage 2 PDL settings as I definitely get throttling when I overclock hard.

Hello!
I`ve got Palit GTX590. As soon as i`ll be at home (reading and writing from work) i`ll try to upload BIOS. If you need BIOS from crappy Palit ofc =)
Anyway, tried to OC it and got stable 3DMark11, Unigine Heaven and Furmark runs on 690MHz and stock memory freq. but have got driver crash in...WoW (dont blame me, i`ve almost broke with it). So currently using 650MHz and stock memory. Also 690MHz was @ stock voltage with 29-30C idle and 39-40 under load (Furmark/Unigine/3DMark).
Proof screens will be later (same as with BIOS).

The last thing - dunno is it right place to post, didnt found any info on the web - when i was removing stock backplates, i`ve tore off a capacitor C783. It`s placed on the back of PCB near the memory and power connectors. Soldering it back on little 3mm copper legs was all i can do. Anyone knows anything about functional use of this element? (I know from TiN`s comment on one of the russian forums that C947 is just power blocking capacitor and card can live without it, maybe C783 is the same thing?)

Yes I need the BIOS!

Not sure which CAP does what. Possibly ask TIN? He frequents KingpinCooling. Does the card still work with you solder job? I would have cried...

Okay then it really must be true, the hydrocoppers are different.

As long as the old ones are working that's fine.

The only thing you can do about PDL is try less OC or an experimental BIOS. I don't recommend disabling it.

Ok so I've sat here and read everything but I'm one of those guys that likes to quadcheck. Can I just download the files provided and use them to flash my Asus GTX 590 provided that I backed up my bios?

If anything were to happen would I be able to use my 430 to restore my 590 with the backup of the bios? And would it be a really stupid idea to push this card to 700 with .963 on air? It seems to cool the cores great at 75% fan and 650 clocks, but as always i'm worried of the VRMS.

If so... I'm tempted to just try it out as it would be interested to see the Asus run with the EVGA bios considering it's pretty much the same card.

yes it works fine. all that OC that i've mentioned was done on the "repaired" card, so this capacitor isnt so necessary or my solder work was good enough.
when i noticed that capacitor laying on the table and not on the card i..was close to heart attack =)

First part, yes.

Second part, yes, that is the best way to restore a non-damaged 590. 700 MHz seems to be the limit on air and water right now. Its not a temperature issue, but a PDL issue.

Third part, stop. Do not flash cross brand. No point what so ever. Stick with ASUS. There is NO REASON to flash the EVGA bios. NONE. NOT EVEN FOR GIGGLES. If you want the same stock OC of 630 MHz, I will make you a personal bios to use from ASUS. People forcing the flash are on a line so thin, it makes a Brazilian thong look like tighty whiteys. You don't know if its actually a different model card /revision. You don't know if it won't flash due to error. You don't know if you can't flash due to current faulty card (for xyz reason.) and flashing will kill it. You just don't know, what may happen and when you force it, you are overriding safety features.

DO NOT FLASH CROSS BRAND. LET ME RE-ITERATE. DON'T. NOT EVER. FOR ANY REASON. You lose warranty if it dies immediately, at least you have a chance for RMA if the first word in the BIOS says ASUS for an ASUS card. Do you think you have a chance if the first word says EVGA or Sparkle? No you do not.

@FOR ALL
Some of the cards are different as we have discovered. Some people are still doing what I say don't do, and if you do it, I will angrily troubleshoot with you when it is crashing randomly. I will belittle you, mock you, use you as an example in the thread, not to be like the village idiot. I will still try and help you, but you will seriously on my ***** list, and I will help you when I feel like it.

That being said, feel free to make any custom OC requests, BASED off of your own BIOS. I really don't mind doing it.

@FOR ALL - Non-Chastising
I really need to write the troubleshooting & what not to do guide.

I have added another North American ASUS Bios (Smoka Cola's):
ASUS NA Bios
Stock Clocks: 630 / 1260 / 1728 <- EVGA Stock Clocks
Voltage: Min: 0.963 / Max: 1.063 <- Fermi Logic Off (Non-Special)

Looks like all my shuffling caused me to confuse which ASUS bios links went where, I just noticed them. Juggalo's Specials were pointing to regular modified, they were also in the EU section, they are NA sections.

I apologize for that. Go ahead and re-flash if you are unsure.

Again all the one's that are "Special" have fermi logic re-enabled... it may or may not improve your overclocks pass 700 MHz.

Always watch temperatures, and I recommend to be on water to use them.
