modular power question (corsair 1000w)

Thread Starter
so i just traded a fellow OCN member for a modular corsair 1000w psu and i usually attempt to buy the psu with the highest amps on one rail but this one has only 480 it seems on 2 12v rails

that isnt so much my question as i have never owned a modular psu

does it matter what sockets i plug into to get the proper power?

If its the one in my sig the its basically 2 500w psu' strapped together.
One runs CPU and 1 GPU and 2nd can run 2x GPU.

At christmas i ran i7 930 and 8800GTX on 1 rail and 2x5870 on the other, everything was overclocked as far as you could like and i had zero probs at all, wasnt hot and wasnt noisy.

Im not sure about combining rails etc but im sure its a no no.

I am assuming you are the new owner of one Corsair HX1000W which is really two 500w power supplies in one. (3 if you want to get really technical) Blue plugs are for PCI-E and the black are for everything else. Each set of plugs should support 480w.

the blue plugs go for my gpu and anything else

and black goes male and female molex for fan controller and other things

Sounds like you should be all set. I am pretty sure the modular cables are color matched to which set of ports they are supposed to fit in as well. (I can't remember if these were keyed or not though)

Some Google searches indicates it was announced Feb 28th 2008.. But it probably didn't ship until a little later.

What are you actually going to do with this thing? 560s?

Because if so it basically doesn't matter. I am running this thing with an OC'd CPU and three 580s and can almost get away with it. (It shuts down in Serious Sam, of all games, and occasionally in Crysis 2, both only in Surround mode.)
